Code P0735 2015 Chevrolet Silverado Description

The transmission turbine speed sensor and vehicle speed sensor are hall-effect sensors. The turbine speed sensor is mounted to the transmission housing and faces the reluctor attached to the 1-2-3-4-5-6 clutch piston housing. The vehicle speed sensor is mounted to the low and reverse clutch housing on 2WD, or transfer case rear case half on 4WD. The vehicle speed sensor faces a reluctor wheel attached to the transmission output shaft on 2WD, or a reluctor wheel attached to the transfer case rear output shaft on 4WD.
The TCM provides a 9 V reference circuit and a signal circuit to each of the sensors. As the 1-2-3-4-5-6 clutch piston housing and transmission output shaft or transfer case output rotates, the sensors produce a signal frequency based on the teeth on the reluctor wheel. The TCM calculates the transmission gear ratio based on the speed sensor signals and compares the calculated gear ratio to the commanded gear ratio.
The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the TCM detects the calculated gear ratio with 5th gear commanded differs from the known 6th gear ratio for 2 s.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0735 2015 Chevrolet Silverado Code

1. What does the OBDII code P0735 mean on a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado?

P0735 indicates that the transmission's 5th gear ratio is incorrect, meaning the actual gear ratio does not match the expected ratio set by the vehicle's computer.

2. What are the common symptoms of code P0735 in a 2015 Chevy Silverado?

Symptoms may include a check engine light, harsh shifting, slipping in 5th gear, transmission overheating, or reduced fuel efficiency.

3. What causes the P0735 code in a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado?

Common causes include low transmission fluid, a faulty transmission solenoid, worn clutch packs, a damaged valve body, or internal transmission issues.

4. Can low transmission fluid cause the P0735 code in my Silverado?

Yes, low or contaminated transmission fluid can lead to insufficient hydraulic pressure, causing the 5th gear to malfunction and trigger the P0735 code.

5. How do you diagnose the P0735 code on a 2015 Silverado?

Diagnosis involves checking the transmission fluid level and condition, inspecting for fault codes, testing the transmission solenoids, and performing a pressure test on the transmission.

6. Can driving with the P0735 code damage my 2015 Chevy Silverado?

Yes, continuing to drive with this code can lead to further damage to the transmission, especially if the issue is related to internal components or low fluid.

7. How is the P0735 code fixed on a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado?

Repairs may include topping off or replacing the transmission fluid, replacing faulty solenoids, repairing or replacing the valve body, or rebuilding the transmission if internal damage is found.

8. Is the P0735 code covered under the powertrain warranty for my 2015 Silverado?

It depends on your warranty terms and mileage, but transmission issues like this are often covered under the powertrain warranty if it is still active.

9. How much does it cost to repair the P0735 code on a 2015 Silverado?

Costs vary depending on the issue, ranging from $100–$300 for a fluid change or solenoid replacement to $1,000–$3,000 for major transmission repairs.
