6. Make sure that the selector lever is in the "N" (Neutral) position.
7. Adjust the flange nut so that there is no slack in the control cable and make sure that the selector lever operates smoothly.
8. Run the vehicle and confirm that the transaxle is set in each range when the selector lever is shifted to each position.

2007 Hyundai Sonata (6 cyl.) "Check Engine" light appeared while at a Stop Sign. When I pulled out the car WOULD NOT shift out of low gear (1st.) and began whining due to the RPM almost maxing out. I pulled off the road and placed the car into park and turned it off. After 30 sec. or so I re-started the engine (engine light was now OFF) and began to slowly accelerate. This time the car shifted correctly into each of the gears. I immedately took the car to Advance Auto and had it scanned. (free-of-charge...thanks Advance!) The following code was present..... P0708 "Transmission High Input". This code reflects that a problem existed with the Transmission Range Sensor/Switch or wiring, etc.. Changing this Switch is neither time consuming nor difficult and almost anyone may accomplish this. Before purchasing the new Sensor/Switch and in order to eliminate the possibility the Sensor/Switch merely needed to be "Reset", I disconnected the "negative" cable on the battery. The result of this step was complete correction of the problem, along with the elimination of the "Check Engine" light. So far no resumption of the problem has been observed.
