Code P0708 Chevrolet Description

The Transmission Internal Mode Switch (IMS) consists of 5 internal switches, A, B, C, P, and Neutral Start.  The Transmission Internal Mode Switch is attached to the selector shaft, and the switches change state depending on the position of the selector shaft. The Transmission Control Module (TCM) supplies a signal circuit to each of the Transmission Internal Mode Switches A, B, C, and P. The TCM uses the switch states to determine the gear range that is selected. The state of each input is displayed on the scan tool TCM Internal Mode Switch A/B/C/P parameter. The internal mode switch input parameters represented are transmission range Signal A, Signal B, Signal C, and Signal P.
The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies a signal circuit to the neutral start switch. The ECM uses the state of the neutral start switch state as confirmation that the transmission is in neutral or park before the engine starter is engaged.
The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the TCM detects the internal mode switch is reporting an illegal range for greater than 1 s.
