This fault code is stored in the engine control module when a malfunction is detected in the brake pedal switch circuit. Two separate switches can be fitted to the vehicle or one component with both switches integrated can be fitted to the vehicle. A plausibility check is carried out between both brake pedal switches and the accelerator pedal position sensor. The configuration of the switches can be: one switch will be normally open type and the other switch will be a normally closed type. A voltage drop test can be used to validate the operation of the circuit. The signal from the switch is used by the engine control module, anti-lock brake control module and to actuate the brake lights.
