I am having issues with the 2003 Honda Accord 3.0 automatic that I just bought from a relative, so 4 days after having it something crazy happened I was slowing down my speed and the CEL came on for a second then went off and the car started buckling it threw a P0685 error code which is something with the ECM, then once I got home and killed it it wouldn't start back up like the battery was dead. So I had a friend take off the ECM to see if it was bad and it wasn't so we put it back on then jumped it off and the car started back up just fine. Went and drove it had no problems, well exactly 1 week later same thing happened, killed it and it wouldn't start back up. I went and bought another ECM from a salvage company and put it on but my car wouldn't read it. So we put the old one back on and it started right back up. I noticed that the battery cables were so loose that we could pull them off by hand without tools, so I had part store check the battery to find out it was good, then got some metal caps to put over the battery post from there and ensured that the cables were tightened on tight. I then reset the ECM by taking the fuse out for 15 min then back in then started it and let it run for 15 minutes without touching anything then killed it then started it again. I am currently driving it again and its been 4 days with no problems. If it happens again what do you think the problem is?

It's very likely that the battery cable was the problem. If the problem persist, the next thing is to replace the ECM relay.

No, its CSX (it has everything from Honda civic just the name is different)

Canada's Civic. Don't have the manual for that exact model, but here is the location for the America 08 Honda Civic. Is the Main FI Relay, I hope it helps.

I have a 2008 Honda Civic lx I was driving 5 miles up the road my car started and shut off brake locked and steering wheel locked and I couldn't shift to neutral.. took it to Honda they checked it and told me the wire module that goes to the pcm is good but the pcm has to be replaced. I replaced pcm and the car was working for 2 weeks and same thing happened. Now they're saying the pcm is good but wires are bad... they took the car apart didn't work on it I got it towed to my house it's been five days and the car is fine any ideas what it could be? It shuts off after being driven in the highway

The code means that even with the ignition ON, the Engine Control Module (ECM) still gets power. The most common problem is the Main Relay 1 (also known ECM Relay)

I have a Honda Accord 2006 model, I observed that the light showing the door opening signal on the dashboard will light up and won’t off. Also I noticed that window button on the door has its light on throughout. Start by checking the battery and alternator charge. Low battery could cause this problem. If the battery and alternator are OK, then you could start by replacing the FI Main Relays

Check the battery and alternator charge. If both check OK, then just clear the code. It's possible that at some point the battery charge got lower than normal.

Check the fuses in the "Under the Hood Fuse and Relay Box"

Okay, I checked that fuse box. None of the fuses there are labeled ECM, nor are any of the relays labeled at all. None of the fuse location tables in the owner's manual identify an ECM fuse, nor are any relays labeled. Any ideas? I'm stumped.

I have a Honda Pilot ‘05 and it gave me this code also, so I would have to replace the relay. My OBDII gave me two other codes: P0420 and P0741 along with this one (P0685). Should I fix the relay first and then the rest? Or should I start with the other issues first?

Yes, start with the relay. The other two problems could be more complicated.

My car is honda city gm2 2011. It also have this p0685 issue. My battery is new, i already checked the main relay, all the fuses in the fuse box, fuse located in the positive of battery, but they are all working fine. My car won't start and the main relay is making noise, the check engine light is also on. But when my obd scanner is plugged in the check engine light turns off and the car can now start, but when i remove the obd scanner while the engine is on it shuts off.

How did you check the Main Relay? I have never seen a similar problem when the engine starts only with the scanner connected.
I would recommend changing the main relay first. Alos, make sure the battery terminals are clean and tight.
The battery and battery cables are the most common problems for the P0685.

I have a 2005 cr-v. Drove fine all day and the engine light came on as soon as i started my car the 4th time today with the same code. I noticed when turning my lights on, the radio would cut off and the interior lights would dim almost to the point of going out for a second. Battery and alternator voltage are fine. So i reset the code and turned the car on and off multiple times. My lights and radio work just fine now and the code is not showing back up. Should i call it a false reading and move on, or replace the relay? If so, can i have the location please

Low battery charge is the most common problem that will set he P0685. Make sure the battery terminals are clean and tight, and you should double check the battery charge. If the battery and terminals are OK, then I recommend replacing the relay.

On your vehicle the PCM main relay is label under "PGM-FI main relay 1"
