Code P067B GMC Description

n the diesel engine, air alone is compressed in the cylinder. Then, after the air has been compressed, a charge of fuel is sprayed into the cylinder and ignition occurs, due to the heat of compression. Eight glow plugs are used as an aid to starting.
Control of the glow plugs is accomplished by the Glow Plug Control Module. The nominal voltage for the glow plugs is 5.4 volts. When the ignition is turned On, the Glow Plug Control Module applies 7.2 V for 2.2 s, then 5.7 V for 0.8 s, and then 5.4 V until 1200°C (2192°F) is reached. The maximum voltage of the system is 10 V. While the engine is running the voltage will vary between 4.7 - 10 V when in closed loop control to maintain a glow plug temperature that ranges from 1150° - 1180°C (2102° - 2156°F). The temperature and the power consumption are controlled between the Engine Control Module (ECM) and the Glow Plug Control Module within a wide range to suit the engine's pre-heating requirements. Each glow plug is energized individually. This capability yields more optimum heat times for the glow plugs, thus pre - glow times can be kept to a minimum for a short wait to crank times and maximum glow plug durability.

Frequently Asked Questions about P067B GMC Code

What does the OBDII code P067B mean for a GMC vehicle?

Code P067B indicates a high voltage condition in the glow plug control circuit for cylinder 4, meaning the system has detected an electrical issue specific to that glow plug.

What are the symptoms of a P067B code?

Symptoms may include difficulty starting the engine in cold weather, a rough idle, reduced fuel efficiency, and the check engine light being illuminated.

What causes a P067B code to be triggered?

Common causes include a faulty glow plug, damaged wiring or connectors in the circuit, a malfunctioning glow plug control module, or corrosion in the electrical connections.

Can I drive my GMC vehicle with a P067B code?

While it may still be drivable, ignoring this code can lead to harder starts, poor engine performance in cold weather, and potential further damage to the glow plug system.

How do I diagnose the P067B code?

Start by visually inspecting the glow plug and its wiring for damage or corrosion. Use a multimeter to test the resistance of the glow plug and check the voltage in the control circuit for abnormalities.

How do I fix the P067B code?

Repairs may involve replacing the faulty glow plug, repairing or replacing damaged wiring or connectors, cleaning corroded terminals, or replacing the glow plug control module if it's defective.

How much does it cost to fix a P067B code?

The cost can vary, but replacing a glow plug usually ranges between $50 and $150, while repairing wiring or replacing the control module can cost more depending on labor and parts.

Can a P067B code cause engine damage?

While the code itself doesn't directly lead to engine damage, prolonged issues with the glow plug system can cause harder starts and increased wear on the engine over time.

How can I prevent the P067B code from reoccurring?

Regular vehicle maintenance, including inspecting and cleaning electrical connections, monitoring the glow plug system, and addressing any issues promptly, can help prevent this code.

Do I need special tools to repair a P067B code?
