Code P0622 2016 Chevrolet Silverado Description

The Engine Control Module (ECM) uses the Generator field duty cycle signal circuit, or F-terminal circuit, to monitor the duty cycle of the Generator. The Generator field duty cycle signal circuit connects to the high side of the field windings in the generator. A Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) high side driver in the voltage regulator turns the field windings ON and OFF. The ECM uses the PWM signal input to determine the generator load on the engine. This allows the ECM to adjust the idle speed to compensate for high electrical loads. The ECM monitors the status of the generator field duty cycle signal circuit. When the ignition is ON and the engine is OFF, the ECM should detect a duty cycle near 0%. When the engine is running, the duty cycle should be between 5 - 99%. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set if the ignition is ON, and the engine OFF (Prior to Ignition ON, the ignition must have been OFF for at least 5 s), the ECM detects a PWM signal that is greater than 65% for 5 s.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0622 2016 Chevrolet Silverado Code

1. What does OBDII code P0622 mean on a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado?

Code P0622 indicates an issue with the Generator F-Terminal Circuit, which affects the vehicle's charging system and alternator communication.

2. What are the common symptoms of code P0622 in a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado?

Symptoms include a battery warning light on the dashboard, a dead battery, dim headlights, or the vehicle stalling due to insufficient power.

3. What causes the P0622 code on a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado?

Common causes include a faulty alternator, damaged wiring or connectors in the F-terminal circuit, a bad voltage regulator, or issues with the powertrain control module (PCM).

4. Can a bad battery cause the P0622 code in a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado?

While a weak or failing battery itself may not directly trigger P0622, it can contribute to charging system issues that lead to the code being set.

5. How do you diagnose the P0622 code on a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado?

Diagnosis involves inspecting the alternator, checking the F-terminal circuit wiring and connectors for damage, testing the voltage regulator, and verifying PCM operation.

6. Can you drive with the P0622 code active on a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado?

It's not recommended to drive for long with this code, as it can lead to battery depletion, stalling, or damage to the charging system.

7. How do you fix the P0622 code on a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado?

Repairs may include replacing the alternator, repairing or replacing damaged wiring, cleaning or reconnecting terminals, or reprogramming/repairing the PCM if needed.

8. How much does it cost to fix the P0622 code on a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado?

The repair cost can vary depending on the issue. Replacing an alternator typically costs $400–$800, while wiring repairs or PCM work may vary based on labor rates.

9. Can a blown fuse cause the P0622 code on a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado?

Yes, a blown fuse in the charging system circuit could disrupt the F-terminal signal and trigger the P0622 code.

10. Does the P0622 code require PCM reprogramming on a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado?

PCM reprogramming is only necessary if the PCM is determined to be the cause of the issue or if a software update is required to resolve the code.
