The shutter grille system open/closes the shutter depending on the driving conditions. The system improves fuel efficiency by reducing the wind drag. The shutter is controlled by the shutter grille which integrates the actuator. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) sends open/close requests which depends on the driving conditions to the shutter grille via the Local Interconnect Network (LIN) line. Also the PCM receives failure information from the shutter grille via the LIN line. The PCM discriminates a failure by the signal value received via the LIN line. If the PCM receives a specified signal from the shutter grille, the PCM detects as a shutter grille LIN line open/short failure and stores a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). The DTC will be set when the upper or lower actuator state of short to ground or EEPROM of the read / write errors of the motor has continued for at least 2.5 seconds or more.
