Code P0507 2011 Nissan Altima Sedan Description

The Engine Control Module (ECM) controls the engine idle speed to a specified level through the fine adjustment of the air, which is let into the intake manifold, by operating the electric throttle control actuator. The operating of the throttle valve is varied to allow for optimum control of the engine idling speed. The ECM calculates the actual engine speed from signals of crankshaft position sensor (POS) and camshaft position sensor.
The ECM controls the electric throttle control actuator so that the engine speed coincides with the target value memorized in the ECM. The target engine speed is the lowest speed at which the engine can operate steadily. The optimum value stored in the ECM is determined by taking into consideration various engine conditions, such as during warming up, deceleration, and engine load (air conditioner, power steering and cooling fan operation, etc.)

Frequently Asked Questions about P0507 2011 Nissan Altima Sedan Code

1. What does the OBDII code P0507 mean on a 2011 Nissan Altima?

P0507 indicates that the engine's idle speed is higher than the manufacturer’s specified range, suggesting an issue with the idle control system.

2. What are the common symptoms of code P0507 in a 2011 Nissan Altima?

Symptoms include a high or fluctuating idle, potential stalling, reduced fuel efficiency, and the check engine light being illuminated.

3. What causes the P0507 code to appear in a Nissan Altima?

Common causes include a dirty or faulty throttle body, vacuum leaks, a malfunctioning idle air control valve, or issues with the PCV valve.

4. Can a vacuum leak trigger the P0507 code in a 2011 Nissan Altima?

Yes, a vacuum leak can cause unregulated air to enter the system, resulting in a higher-than-expected idle speed and triggering the code.

5. How can a dirty throttle body cause the P0507 code?

A dirty throttle body can disrupt airflow control, leading to an imbalance in the idle speed and causing the engine to idle higher than expected.

6. Is it safe to drive with the P0507 code on a 2011 Nissan Altima?

While the car may still be drivable, excessive idling can lead to poor fuel economy and potential damage to engine components if not addressed.

7. How do you diagnose the P0507 code on a Nissan Altima?

Diagnosis involves checking the throttle body for dirt or damage, inspecting for vacuum leaks, testing the idle air control valve, and scanning for additional codes.

8. Can cleaning the throttle body fix the P0507 code?

In many cases, cleaning the throttle body can resolve the issue if dirt or carbon buildup is causing the high idle speed.

9. What tools are needed to fix the P0507 code on a 2011 Nissan Altima?

You may need a scan tool, throttle body cleaner, basic hand tools, and possibly a vacuum leak tester depending on the cause.

10. How much does it cost to repair the P0507 code on a 2011 Nissan Altima?
