P0507 2010 Nissan Altima Sedan Code - Idle Control System RPM Higher Than Expected

Quick Answer

The Engine Control Module (ECM) controls the engine idle speed to a specified level through the fine adjustment of the air, which is let into the intake manifold, by operating the electric throttle control actuator. Common causes include Dirty throttle body, Electric throttle control actuator misadjusted or damaged, Faulty Electric throttle control actuator. Severity is High - diagnose this code as soon as possible. Driving is not recommended if the warning light is flashing, the engine runs poorly, or safety-related symptoms are present.

Code P0507 2010 Nissan Altima Sedan Description

The Engine Control Module (ECM) controls the engine idle speed to a specified level through the fine adjustment of the air, which is let into the intake manifold, by operating the electric throttle control actuator. The operating of the throttle valve is varied to allow for optimum control of the engine idling speed. The ECM calculates the actual engine speed from signals of crankshaft position sensor (POS) and camshaft position sensor.
The ECM controls the electric throttle control actuator so that the engine speed coincides with the target value memorized in the ECM. The target engine speed is the lowest speed at which the engine can operate steadily. The optimum value stored in the ECM is determined by taking into consideration various engine conditions, such as during warming up, deceleration, and engine load (air conditioner, power steering and cooling fan operation, etc.)

Frequently Asked Questions about P0507 2010 Nissan Altima Sedan Code

1. What does the OBDII code P0507 mean on a 2010 Nissan Altima Sedan?

The P0507 code indicates that the engine's idle control system is maintaining the RPM higher than the manufacturer’s specified range.

2. What are common symptoms of the P0507 code in a 2010 Nissan Altima?

Symptoms include a high idle speed, potential stalling after deceleration, poor fuel economy, and sometimes an illuminated check engine light.

3. What causes the P0507 code to appear in a 2010 Nissan Altima?

Common causes include a vacuum leak, a dirty or faulty throttle body, a malfunctioning idle air control (IAC) valve, or software issues in the engine control module (ECM).

4. Can a dirty throttle body trigger the P0507 code in my Nissan Altima?

Yes, carbon buildup in the throttle body can obstruct airflow control, causing idle RPM to rise and triggering the P0507 code.

5. How can I fix the P0507 code on a 2010 Nissan Altima?

Cleaning the throttle body, checking for vacuum leaks, inspecting the idle air control valve, and ensuring the ECM software is up to date are common fixes.

6. Is it safe to drive my 2010 Nissan Altima with the P0507 code active?

While the vehicle may still be drivable, driving with a high idle can lead to poor fuel efficiency and potential damage to the engine or transmission over time.

7. How do I check for vacuum leaks that might cause the P0507 code?

Inspect hoses and connections around the intake manifold and PCV system for cracks, loose fittings, or disconnections that could allow unmetered air into the engine.

8. Does the P0507 code always require parts replacement?

Not necessarily. In many cases, cleaning the throttle body or fixing a vacuum leak can resolve the issue without replacing components.

9. Can a faulty idle air control valve cause the P0507 code?

Yes, a failing idle air control valve can lead to improper regulation of idle speed, triggering the P0507 code.

10. Will resetting the check engine light fix the P0507 code permanently?

No, resetting the light will clear the code temporarily, but if the underlying issue isn’t resolved, the code will return.
