P0507 2004 Infiniti G35 Code - Idle Speed Control System RPM Higher Than Expected

Quick Answer

The Engine Control Module (ECM) controls the engine idle speed to a specified level through the fine adjustment of the air, which is let into the intake manifold, by operating the electric throttle control actuator. Common causes include Dirty throttle body, Electric throttle control actuator misadjusted or damaged, Faulty Electric throttle control actuator. Severity is High - diagnose this code as soon as possible. Driving is not recommended if the warning light is flashing, the engine runs poorly, or safety-related symptoms are present.

Code P0507 2004 Infiniti G35 Description

The Engine Control Module (ECM) controls the engine idle speed to a specified level through the fine adjustment of the air, which is let into the intake manifold, by operating the electric throttle control actuator. The operating of the throttle valve is varied to allow for optimum control of the engine idling speed. The ECM calculates the actual engine speed from signals of crankshaft position sensor (POS) and camshaft position sensor.
The ECM controls the electric throttle control actuator so that the engine speed coincides with the target value memorized in the ECM. The target engine speed is the lowest speed at which the engine can operate steadily. The optimum value stored in the ECM is determined by taking into consideration various engine conditions, such as during warming up, deceleration, and engine load (air conditioner, power steering and cooling fan operation, etc.)

Frequently Asked Questions about P0507 2004 Infiniti G35 Code

1. What does the OBDII code P0507 mean on a 2004 Infiniti G35?

The P0507 code indicates that the engine's idle speed is higher than the manufacturer’s specified range, typically caused by an issue with the Idle Speed Control (ISC) system.

2. What are the common symptoms of P0507 on a 2004 Infiniti G35?

Symptoms include a high or fluctuating idle speed, rough idling, poor fuel economy, and possibly an illuminated Check Engine Light.

3. What causes the P0507 code on a 2004 Infiniti G35?

Common causes include a dirty or faulty throttle body, a vacuum leak, a malfunctioning idle air control valve, or issues with the PCV system.

4. How can a dirty throttle body lead to the P0507 code?

A dirty throttle body can restrict airflow regulation, causing the engine to idle higher than expected and triggering the code.

5. Can a vacuum leak trigger the P0507 code on my Infiniti G35?

Yes, a vacuum leak allows unmetered air into the engine, disrupting the air-fuel mixture and leading to a higher idle speed.

6. How do you fix the P0507 code on a 2004 Infiniti G35?

Common fixes include cleaning the throttle body, repairing any vacuum leaks, replacing the idle air control valve, or resetting the engine control module (ECM).

7. Is it safe to drive my 2004 Infiniti G35 with the P0507 code?

While it may be safe for short trips, prolonged driving with this code can lead to reduced performance and potential engine damage if left unresolved.

8. How do I know if the idle air control valve is causing P0507?

If cleaning the throttle body and checking for vacuum leaks doesn’t resolve the issue, testing or replacing the idle air control valve may be necessary.

9. Can cleaning the throttle body fix the P0507 code?

Yes, cleaning a dirty throttle body often resolves the issue, as it restores proper airflow regulation to the engine.

10. Do I need to reset the ECU after fixing the P0507 code on a 2004 Infiniti G35?

Yes, after repairs, resetting the ECU or clearing the code with an OBDII scanner ensures the Check Engine Light goes off and the system recalibrates.
