Code P0505 Nissan Description

This system automatically controls engine idle speed to a specified level. Idle speed is controlled through fine adjustment of the amount of air which by-passes the throttle valve via Idle Air Control Valve IACV) and Auxiliary Air Control AAC) Valve. The IACV-AAC valve changes the opening of the air by-pass passage to control the amount of auxiliary air. This valve is actuated by a step motor built into the valve, which moves the valve in the axial direction in steps corresponding to the Engine Control Module (ECM) output signals.
One step of IACV-AAC valve movement causes the respective opening of the air by-pass passage. (i.e. when the step advances, the opening is enlarged.) The opening of the valve is varied to allow for optimum control of the engine idling speed. The crankshaft position sensor (POS) detects the actual engine speed and sends a signal to the ECM. The ECM then controls the step position of the IACV-AAC valve so that engine speed coincides with the target value memorized in ECM. The target engine speed is the lowest speed at which the engine can operate steadily. The optimum value stored in the ECM is determined by takig into consideration various engine conditions, such as during warm up, deceleration, and engine load (air conditioner, power steering and cooling fan operation).

Discuss the causes and fixes for P0505 Nissan OBDII Code

  • i have 1999 nissan quest code is p0505 and crank senser is it could be the crank senser only

  • Yes, the problem could be just the crankshaft position sensor.

  • I have a 01 nissan maxima  po505came up rpm 1000-1500 up & down
replace idle valve  same problem did the relearn procedure
now engine wont crank over...run out of time but will continue troubleshooting this
    afternoon.... any sugestions welcome

  • You probably have to replaced the ECM as well. It's common for the ECM to get damage after the IACV valve fails. Before replacing the ECM you should have the dealer try to set the idle first.

  • 1999nissan frontier p0505, p0325,p0335 please which one first?

  • The P0335 or you could erase all the codes and start with the one that comes back first.

  • Came up with codes p1490 p0100 p0159 p0158 p0140 p0505 car would randomly idle improper amd stall. Finally died out and will turnover but not run. Please help thought it mite be cranck shaft position sensor but code did not show up

  • What model and year is your Nissan?
Only code in the list that could cause the engine to stall is the P0100 code ( https://www.autocodes.com/p... ) bad Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.

Try disconnecting the car battery for about 30 minutes to reset all the systems, clean the air filter and MAF, and then try to start the engine. Make sure the car battery is fully charge, before you start the engine.

  • 2000 Nissan Maxima throwing p0505 code. Replaced IAC twice, sent ECU off to be repaired but company said it was fine. Replaced IAC again and still same code. Just ordered Mass Air Flow Sensor. Any other suggestions?

  • Did you set the engine idle speed after you replaced the IAC? to what speed did you set the idle?

  • Rough idle at stop. have a few codes p0505, p0300 p1400, p1490, p1105, p0446. cleaned the mass air flow iacv valve, egr, checked everything and no obvious cracks or shorts etc. At higher speeds it feels like it's choking and not getting gas. When you push hard on the gas it is sluggish than responds. Any suggestions?

  • sorry it's a 99 pathfinder

  • Have you tried clearing all the codes? Sounds like you may have a disconnected hose or an intake leak. P0505 and P0300 may be a result of the problem but not the cause. If you clear the codes, what code comes back first?
