Code P0505 2011 Ford Fusion Description

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) controls the engine idle speed to a specified level through the fine adjustment of the air, which is let into the intake manifold, by operating the Electronic Throttle Actuator Control (TAC). The operating of the throttle valve is varied to allow for optimum control of the engine idling speed. The PCM calculates the actual engine speed from the signals of the crankshaft position sensor (POS) and the camshaft position sensor.
The PCM controls the Electronic Throttle Actuator Control so that the engine speed coincides with the target value memorized in the PCM. The target engine speed is the lowest speed at which the engine can operate steadily. The optimum value stored in the PCM is determined by taking into consideration various engine conditions, such as during warming up, deceleration, and engine load (air conditioner, power steering, and cooling fan operation, etc.).
The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) sets when the desired RPM could not be reached or controlled during the key ON engine running (KOER) self-test.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0505 2011 Ford Fusion Code

1. What does the OBDII code P0505 mean on a 2011 Ford Fusion?

P0505 indicates an Idle Control System Malfunction, meaning the vehicle's Engine Control Module (ECM) detects a problem with the Idle Air Control (IAC) system.

2. What are the common symptoms of code P0505 in a 2011 Ford Fusion?

Symptoms may include erratic idle speed, stalling at idle, difficulty starting, and the Check Engine Light being illuminated.

3. What causes the P0505 code on a 2011 Ford Fusion?

Common causes include a dirty or faulty Idle Air Control (IAC) valve, vacuum leaks, damaged wiring or connectors, or issues with the throttle body.

4. Can a vacuum leak trigger a P0505 code on my Ford Fusion?

Yes, vacuum leaks can disrupt the idle control system and cause the P0505 code to be triggered.

5. How do I diagnose the P0505 code on a 2011 Ford Fusion?

Start by inspecting the IAC valve, throttle body, and related wiring for damage or dirt. Use a scan tool to monitor idle system performance and check for vacuum leaks.
