I have a 2002 toyota highlaner 6 cyl. and reading a P0500 code. With this code the vehicle will not move foward when placed in dirve. Is this normal? The code P0500 is vehicle speed sensor.
-
No. My guess is that something else is causing the problem (e.g. transmission mechanical problem) and the code is set because the vehicle is not moving.
-
On the 2002 toyota highlander, the code P0500, vehicle speed sensor "A", where is the speed sensor "A" located on this vehicle and vehicle is a four wheel drive (not fulltime). Also, would dirty transmission fluid cause the vehicle from moving foward or back when placed in gear (D,R)? I did replace one speed sensor on the transmission but to no avail. One more thing, when placed in gear the transmission makes alittle noise, and the ABS and brake light is on in the dashboard. Hope this helps. Thank you for your help.

As I stated before, your problem sounds more like there is a transmission mechanical problem. if the transmission fluid is dirty and has a burnt smell, then the transmission has failed.
