I fixed this problem by regenerating the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). Basically drive around in 3rd gear at about 3000-3200 RPM for 10-15 minutes. Need to get the DPF hot enough to burn off all the soot build up.
I got home switched the car off ( you could smell it ). The next morning started the car - ENGINE LIGHT OFF!
