Emission test revealed Code PO 446 and did not pass the test. Now if vent control valve is defective, can we change the valve only or we have to change the entire canister. My mechanic is saying that valve can not be changed, it has to be the whole canister. For 1999 Camry XLE he is asking for $ 445 for Canister and $ 60 for labor. Does it sound reasonable? Unfortunately Toyota doesn't sell the valve by it self, you have to buy the entire canister assembly. Yes, the price is reasonable, $60 for labor for diagnose the problem, replace the par and clear the code it's actually a good price. At the dealer they charge $150 just for checking the code.
