The HO2S produces an output signal that the ECM uses to calculate the oxygen storage capacity of the catalyst. This indicates the ability of the catalyst to convert the exhaust emissions efficiently. The ECM monitors the efficiency of the catalyst by monitoring the HO2S during an off-idle, Decel Fuel Cut-Off (DFCO) event. When the catalyst is functioning properly, the post-catalyst HO2S response to the fuel conditions during the DFCO event is slow compared to the response of the pre-catalyst HO2S.   • i have a 2000 gmc yukon that was throwing a p0430 code. I did a lot of research not wanting to do incorrect costly repairs. I started my repairs with changing the bank 2 downstream O2 sensor, i figured with 198,000 miles on the old girl it couldn't hurt. Swing and a miss, the code came back. I thought oh boy, the bank 2 cat is no good. Still not ready to part with alot of my hard earned money, step 2. Check temperature on cat 2. The input was lower than the output temperature. With things seeming to be working correctly, what to move on to next. The truck has no performance issues, no other codes but i noticed i was using more gas than usual. I checked for intake/vacuum leaks. None. Keep it simple, think tune up. No misfire on the plugs......PCV valve! Bingo, clogged. Inexpensive repair but the Yukon is running like a champ.
