P041D 2015 GMC Sierra Code - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit High Voltage

Quick Answer

The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) temperature sensors are variable resistors that measure the temperature of the exhaust gas at the inlet and outlet of the EGR cooler. Common causes include Faulty Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Temperature Sensor 1, Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature Sensor 1 harness is open or shorted, Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature Sensor 1 circuit poor electrical connection. Severity is High - diagnose this code as soon as possible. Driving is not recommended if the warning light is flashing, the engine runs poorly, or safety-related symptoms are present.

Code P041D 2015 GMC Sierra Description

The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) temperature sensors are variable resistors that measure the temperature of the exhaust gas at the inlet and outlet of the EGR cooler. The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies 5 volts to the EGR temperature sensor signal circuit and a ground for the low reference circuit. When the EGR temperature sensor is cold, the sensor resistance is high. When the EGR temperature increases, the sensor resistance decreases. The ECM detects a higher voltage on the EGR temperature signal circuit with high sensor resistance. With lower sensor resistance, the ECM detects a lower voltage on the EGR temperature signal circuit. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the ECM detects that the EGR temperature sensor resistance has changed greater than 25 Ω in 0.1 s.

Frequently Asked Questions about P041D 2015 GMC Sierra Code

What does the OBDII code P041D mean for a 2015 GMC Sierra?

P041D indicates a high voltage issue in the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Temperature Sensor 1 circuit, suggesting a potential fault in the sensor, wiring, or related components.

What are the symptoms of code P041D in a 2015 GMC Sierra?

Common symptoms include an illuminated check engine light, reduced engine performance, poor fuel economy, or increased emissions.

What causes the P041D code to appear?

Possible causes include a faulty EGR temperature sensor, damaged or corroded wiring/connectors, or issues with the vehicle's powertrain control module (PCM).

Can I still drive my 2015 GMC Sierra with a P041D code?

While the truck may still be drivable, operating it with this code could lead to reduced performance, increased emissions, and potential damage to other engine components.

How do I diagnose the P041D code?

Diagnosis involves using an OBDII scanner to confirm the code, visually inspecting the EGR temperature sensor and wiring, and testing the sensor’s voltage and resistance.

How can I fix the P041D code on my 2015 GMC Sierra?

Repairs may include replacing the EGR temperature sensor, repairing or replacing damaged wiring, clearing the code, and retesting the system.

How much does it cost to fix the P041D code?

The cost depends on the specific repair, but replacing the EGR temperature sensor typically ranges from $100 to $200, including parts and labor.

Can a dirty EGR valve cause the P041D code?

While the code specifically relates to the EGR temperature sensor circuit, a clogged or malfunctioning EGR valve could indirectly contribute to related issues.

Does the P041D code affect emissions?

Yes, a malfunctioning EGR temperature sensor can cause improper exhaust gas recirculation, leading to increased emissions.

Will clearing the P041D code with a scanner fix the issue?

Clearing the code may turn off the check engine light temporarily, but the underlying issue must be addressed to prevent the code from returning.
