P041C 2018 GMC Sierra Code - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit Low Voltage

Quick Answer

The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) temperature sensors are variable resistors that measure the temperature of the exhaust gas at the inlet and outlet of the EGR cooler. Common causes include Faulty Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Temperature Sensor 1, Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature Sensor 1 harness is open or shorted, Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature Sensor 1 circuit poor electrical connection. Severity is High - diagnose this code as soon as possible. Driving is not recommended if the warning light is flashing, the engine runs poorly, or safety-related symptoms are present.

Code P041C 2018 GMC Sierra Description

The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) temperature sensors are variable resistors that measure the temperature of the exhaust gas at the inlet and outlet of the EGR cooler. The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies 5 volts to the EGR temperature sensor signal circuit and a ground for the low reference circuit. When the EGR temperature sensor is cold, the sensor resistance is high. When the EGR temperature increases, the sensor resistance decreases. The ECM detects a higher voltage on the EGR temperature signal circuit with high sensor resistance. With lower sensor resistance, the ECM detects a lower voltage on the EGR temperature signal circuit. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the ECM detects that the EGR temperature sensor resistance is less than 147 Ω for greater than 5 s.

Frequently Asked Questions about P041C 2018 GMC Sierra Code

1. What does the OBDII code P041C mean on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

P041C indicates that the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit is experiencing low voltage, which may affect the EGR system's performance.

2. What are common symptoms of the P041C code on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Common symptoms include the check engine light turning on, reduced fuel efficiency, rough idling, and possible engine performance issues.

3. What causes the P041C code to appear on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Possible causes include a faulty EGR temperature sensor, wiring issues such as short circuits or damaged connectors, or a malfunctioning EGR valve.

4. Can I drive my 2018 GMC Sierra with the P041C code active?

While the vehicle may still be drivable, ignoring the code can lead to reduced performance, increased emissions, and potential damage to the EGR system over time.

5. How do I diagnose the P041C code on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Start by using an OBDII scanner to confirm the code, then inspect the EGR temperature sensor, wiring, and connectors for damage or corrosion.

6. How do I fix the P041C code on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Repairs may involve replacing the EGR temperature sensor, repairing or replacing damaged wiring, or cleaning or replacing the EGR valve if necessary.

7. How much does it cost to repair the P041C code on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Repair costs vary but typically range from $100 to $300, depending on whether the EGR temperature sensor, wiring, or other components need replacement.

8. Can a dirty EGR valve cause the P041C code on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Yes, a clogged or dirty EGR valve can disrupt sensor readings and contribute to the P041C code.

9. How can I prevent the P041C code from recurring on my 2018 GMC Sierra?

Regular maintenance of the EGR system, including cleaning the valve and inspecting wiring and sensors, can help prevent this code.

10. Will clearing the P041C code with an OBDII scanner fix the problem?
