P041C 2015 GMC Sierra Code - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit Low Voltage

Quick Answer

The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) temperature sensors are variable resistors that measure the temperature of the exhaust gas at the inlet and outlet of the EGR cooler. Common causes include Faulty Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Temperature Sensor 1, Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature Sensor 1 harness is open or shorted, Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature Sensor 1 circuit poor electrical connection. Severity is High - diagnose this code as soon as possible. Driving is not recommended if the warning light is flashing, the engine runs poorly, or safety-related symptoms are present.

Code P041C 2015 GMC Sierra Description

The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) temperature sensors are variable resistors that measure the temperature of the exhaust gas at the inlet and outlet of the EGR cooler. The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies 5 volts to the EGR temperature sensor signal circuit and a ground for the low reference circuit. When the EGR temperature sensor is cold, the sensor resistance is high. When the EGR temperature increases, the sensor resistance decreases. The ECM detects a higher voltage on the EGR temperature signal circuit with high sensor resistance. With lower sensor resistance, the ECM detects a lower voltage on the EGR temperature signal circuit. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the ECM detects that the EGR temperature sensor resistance is less than 147 Ω for greater than 5 s.

Frequently Asked Questions about P041C 2015 GMC Sierra Code

1. What does the OBDII code P041C mean on a 2015 GMC Sierra?

The P041C code indicates a problem with the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Temperature Sensor 1, specifically that the circuit is detecting a low voltage condition.

2. What are common symptoms of the P041C code in a 2015 GMC Sierra?

Symptoms may include the check engine light turning on, reduced engine performance, poor fuel economy, and possibly increased emissions.

3. What causes the P041C code to appear on a 2015 GMC Sierra?

Common causes include a faulty EGR temperature sensor, damaged or corroded wiring, poor electrical connections, or a malfunctioning EGR valve.

4. Can I drive my 2015 GMC Sierra with the P041C code?

While the vehicle may still be drivable, continuing to drive with this issue can lead to reduced performance and potential damage to the emissions system over time.

5. How do I diagnose the P041C code on a 2015 GMC Sierra?

Diagnosis typically involves using a scan tool to check the EGR temperature sensor readings, inspecting wiring and connectors, and testing the sensor for proper operation.

6. How do I fix the P041C code on a 2015 GMC Sierra?

Repairs may include replacing the EGR temperature sensor, repairing damaged wiring, cleaning connections, or replacing the EGR valve if necessary.

7. How much does it cost to repair the P041C code on a 2015 GMC Sierra?

Repair costs can vary, but replacing an EGR temperature sensor typically costs between $100 and $300, including parts and labor.

8. Can a dirty EGR valve cause the P041C code on a 2015 GMC Sierra?

Yes, a dirty or clogged EGR valve can indirectly contribute to the P041C code by affecting the EGR system’s performance and temperature readings.

9. How can I prevent the P041C code from recurring on my 2015 GMC Sierra?

Regular maintenance of the EGR system, including cleaning the EGR valve and inspecting wiring for damage, can help prevent this code from recurring.

10. Will clearing the P041C code fix the problem on a 2015 GMC Sierra?

Clearing the code will turn off the check engine light temporarily, but the underlying issue must be resolved to prevent the code from returning.
