P041B 2018 GMC Sierra Code - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature Sensor 1 Performance

Quick Answer

The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) temperature sensors are variable resistors that measure the temperature of the exhaust gas at the inlet and outlet of the EGR cooler. Common causes include Faulty Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Temperature Sensor 1, Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature Sensor 1 harness is open or shorted, Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature Sensor 1 circuit poor electrical connection. Severity is High - diagnose this code as soon as possible. Driving is not recommended if the warning light is flashing, the engine runs poorly, or safety-related symptoms are present.

Code P041B 2018 GMC Sierra Description

The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) temperature sensors are variable resistors that measure the temperature of the exhaust gas at the inlet and outlet of the EGR cooler. The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies 5 volts to the EGR temperature sensor signal circuit and a ground for the low reference circuit. When the EGR temperature sensor is cold, the sensor resistance is high. When the EGR temperature increases, the sensor resistance decreases. The ECM detects a higher voltage on the EGR temperature signal circuit with high sensor resistance. With lower sensor resistance, the ECM detects a lower voltage on the EGR temperature signal circuit. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the ECM detects that the EGR temperature sensor has not changed greater than a calibrated amount for greater than a calibrated amount of time following a cold start.

1. What does OBDII code P041B mean on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

P041B indicates an issue with the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Temperature Sensor 1, specifically related to its performance or range.

2. What are the common symptoms of code P041B on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Symptoms may include an illuminated check engine light, reduced engine performance, rough idling, and increased emissions.

3. What causes code P041B to appear on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Common causes include a faulty EGR temperature sensor, wiring issues, connector damage, or carbon buildup in the EGR system.

4. Can I drive my 2018 GMC Sierra with the P041B code?

Driving with this code is possible but not recommended, as it can lead to reduced fuel efficiency, increased emissions, or potential engine damage over time.

5. How do I diagnose the P041B code on my 2018 GMC Sierra?

Use an OBDII scanner to confirm the code, inspect the EGR temperature sensor for damage or contamination, and check the wiring and connectors for faults.

6. How do I fix the P041B code on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Repairs may involve cleaning or replacing the EGR temperature sensor, repairing wiring or connector issues, and clearing the code with a scanner.

7. How much does it cost to fix the P041B code on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Repair costs vary but typically range from $100 to $300, depending on whether the sensor needs replacement or wiring repairs are required.

8. Can a dirty EGR valve cause the P041B code on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Yes, carbon buildup in the EGR valve can affect the sensor's performance and contribute to this code.

9. How often should the EGR system be serviced to prevent code P041B?

The EGR system should be inspected and cleaned periodically, typically every 50,000 to 70,000 miles, to prevent issues.
