P041B 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Code - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature Sensor 1 Performance

Quick Answer

The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) temperature sensors are variable resistors that measure the temperature of the exhaust gas at the inlet and outlet of the EGR cooler. Common causes include Faulty Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Temperature Sensor 1, Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature Sensor 1 harness is open or shorted, Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature Sensor 1 circuit poor electrical connection. Severity is High - diagnose this code as soon as possible. Driving is not recommended if the warning light is flashing, the engine runs poorly, or safety-related symptoms are present.

Code P041B 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Description

The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) temperature sensors are variable resistors that measure the temperature of the exhaust gas at the inlet and outlet of the EGR cooler. The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies 5 volts to the EGR temperature sensor signal circuit and a ground for the low reference circuit. When the EGR temperature sensor is cold, the sensor resistance is high. When the EGR temperature increases, the sensor resistance decreases. The ECM detects a higher voltage on the EGR temperature signal circuit with high sensor resistance. With lower sensor resistance, the ECM detects a lower voltage on the EGR temperature signal circuit. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the ECM detects that the EGR temperature sensor has not changed greater than a calibrated amount for greater than a calibrated amount of time following a cold start.

Frequently Asked Questions about P041B 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Code

What does the OBDII code P041B mean on a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

1. P041B indicates a performance issue with Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Temperature Sensor 1, which monitors the temperature of recirculated exhaust gases for proper EGR system function. 2.

What are the common symptoms of a P041B code?

Symptoms may include an illuminated Check Engine Light, decreased fuel efficiency, rough idling, engine hesitation, or increased emissions. 3.

What causes the P041B code to appear?

Common causes include a faulty EGR temperature sensor, wiring issues like shorts or corrosion, a malfunctioning EGR valve, or excessive carbon buildup in the EGR system. 4.

How do I diagnose the P041B code on my Silverado?

Start by scanning the vehicle with an OBDII scanner, visually inspecting the EGR temperature sensor and its wiring, and testing the sensor with a multimeter for proper resistance readings. 5.

Can I drive my Silverado with a P041B code?

While the vehicle may still be drivable, ignoring the code can lead to reduced performance and potential engine damage. It’s best to address the issue promptly. 6.

What repairs are needed to fix the P041B code?

Repairs may include replacing the EGR temperature sensor, cleaning or replacing the EGR valve, repairing damaged wiring, or removing carbon buildup in the EGR system. 7.

How much does it cost to fix a P041B code?

The repair cost can range from $100 to $300, depending on whether the issue is limited to the EGR temperature sensor or involves additional components like the EGR valve. 8.

Can a dirty EGR valve cause the P041B code?

Yes, a clogged or dirty EGR valve can disrupt exhaust gas flow and cause incorrect temperature readings, triggering the P041B code. 9.

How can I prevent the P041B code from recurring?

Regular maintenance, such as cleaning the EGR system and using high-quality fuel, can help prevent carbon buildup and sensor malfunctions. 10.

Does a P041B code affect emissions tests?
