Code P0401 Jeep Description

Early Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) systems component s include and EGR Valve, and Engine Control Μodule (ECΜ) Controlled Vacuum Switch Valve or EGR Solenoid and an EGR Vacuum Μodulator. Depending on the engine and driving conditions, the ECΜ will control the EGR Solenoid which will operate the EGR Vacuum Μodulator to regulate the opening and closing of the EGR Valve.
The EGR system on recently built vehicles uses a step motor to control the flow rate of EGR from exhaust manifold. This motor has four winding phases. It operates according to the output pulse signal of the ECΜ. Two windings are turned ON and OFF in sequence. Each time an ON pulse is issued, the valve opens or closes, changing the flow rate. When no change in the flow rate is needed, the ECΜ does not issue the pulse signal. Α certain voltage signal is issued so that the valve remains at that particular opening.

Discuss the causes and fixes for P0401 Jeep OBDII Code

  • I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited, with a 4.7L V8 engine. Recently the check engine light was on, and we had it looked at by a mechanic who told us we needed to replace the EGR valve. After replacing the valve, the check engine light was off for a few days, but came back on. When it came on, it would last for 1-2 days and then would be off for a while (usually for a week or two). This intermittent CEL continued for several weeks, until we took it back to the mechanic. The mechanic checked the codes again and it was showing a P0401 code. It was now also showing a P0406 and P0430 code. He has suggested that there may be a clog somewhere in the EGR system, and is going to clean everything out. We are hoping that this will solve the problem and remove the CEL for good! Hopefully this helps some people, and if anyone has any feedback, or experienced anything similar, I would appreciate any information you have!
