Code P0353 2011 Toyota Camry Description

The DIS is a 1-cylinder ignition system in which each cylinder is ignited by one ignition coil and one spark plug is connected to the end of each secondary wiring. A powerful voltage, generated in the secondary wiring, is applied directly to each spark plug. The sparks of the spark plugs pass from the center electrode to the ground electrodes.
The ECM determines the ignition timing and transmits the ignition (IGT) signals to each cylinder. Using the IGT signal, the ECM turns the power transistor inside the igniter on and off. The power transistor, in turn, switches on and off the current to the primary coil. When the current to the primary coil is cut off, a powerful voltage is generated in the secondary coil. This voltage is applied to the spark plugs, causing them to spark inside the cylinders. As the ECM cuts the current to the primary coil, the igniter sends back an ignition confirmation (IGF) signal to the ECM, for each cylinder ignition.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0353 2011 Toyota Camry Code

1. What does OBDII code P0353 mean on a 2011 Toyota Camry?

P0353 indicates an issue in the Ignition Coil C (or Cylinder 3) Primary/Secondary Circuit, meaning the engine control module (ECM) detected a fault in the ignition coil or its circuit for cylinder 3.

2. What are the common symptoms of code P0353 in a 2011 Toyota Camry?

Symptoms may include engine misfires, rough idling, poor acceleration, reduced fuel efficiency, and the check engine light illuminating.

3. What causes the P0353 code to appear in a 2011 Toyota Camry?

Common causes include a faulty ignition coil, damaged wiring or connectors in the ignition coil circuit, a defective spark plug, or a malfunctioning ECM.

4. Can I drive my 2011 Toyota Camry with a P0353 code?

It’s not recommended. Driving with an ignition coil issue can cause further engine damage, reduced performance, and increased emissions.

5. How do I diagnose the P0353 code in a 2011 Toyota Camry?

Start by inspecting the ignition coil and its wiring for damage. Use a multimeter to check for proper voltage and continuity in the circuit. Swap the ignition coil with another cylinder to see if the misfire follows the coil.

6. What’s the most common fix for a P0353 code on a 2011 Toyota Camry?

The most common fix is replacing the faulty ignition coil for cylinder 3. If the wiring or connectors are damaged, they may also need repair or replacement.

7. How much does it cost to fix a P0353 code in a 2011 Toyota Camry?

Replacing an ignition coil typically costs $100-$250, including parts and labor. Additional costs may arise if wiring or other components need repair.

8. Can a bad spark plug cause the P0353 code in a 2011 Toyota Camry?

Yes, a worn or damaged spark plug in cylinder 3 can cause the ignition coil to work harder, potentially triggering the P0353 code.

9. Will clearing the P0353 code fix the issue in a 2011 Toyota Camry?

Clearing the code will turn off the check engine light temporarily, but the underlying issue must be resolved to prevent the code from returning.

10. What tools do I need to fix the P0353 code on my 2011 Toyota Camry?

You’ll need an OBDII scanner, a multimeter for electrical testing, and basic hand tools like a socket set to replace the ignition coil or check wiring.
