Code P0345 2005 Nissan Maxima Description

The Camshaft Position Sensor is an electronic device used in an engine to record the rate at which the camshaft is spinning. This information is used by the Engine Control Module(ECM) to control ignition and fuel injection. The camshaft position sensor senses the retraction of camshaft (intake) to identify a particular cylinder. The camshaft position sensor senses the piston position. The sensor system consists of a rotating part, typically a disc, as well as a static part, the actual sensor.
When the engine is running, the high and low parts of the teeth cause the gap with the sensor to change. The changing gap causes the magnetic field near the sensor to change. The change in the magnetic field cause the voltage from the sensor to change.
When the crankshaft position sensor (POS) system becomes inoperative, the camshaft position sensor provides various controls of engine parts instead, utilizing timing of cylinder identification signals.

Discuss the causes and fixes for P0345 2005 Nissan Maxima OBDII Code

  • 2005 Nissan Maxima, 3.5. Slowed then died. will not start.

I replaced the two cam sensors, the crank sensor, the car has a new fuel pump and new factory installed chains and tensioners. The codes were cleared, and reread after trying to start. The two codes say the same thing as before, bank one and two cam sensors circuit A are bad.
I checked and the engine is not getting fuel or spark. All fuses are good.
I did notice the starter motor is shimmed up, there are four fat washers on each bolt hole going into the trans housing, this starter sometimes refuses to turn. Making me think the battery was bad, after checking, the battery is ok. It appears to be a jury rigged starter. But it worked for several months; than the car started going dead. I had to jump it several times.

  • The starter wont cause the engine to died. You have a tough one there, because I have not seen any other components triggering the Camshaft Position Sensors codes. Have you checked the charging system?
