Code P0335 Buick Description

The crankshaft position sensor is an internally magnetic biased digital output integrated circuit sensing device. The sensor detects magnetic flux changes in the teeth and slots of the reluctor wheel on the crankshaft. The reluctor wheel is spaced at 60-tooth spacing, with two missing teeth for the reference gap. The reference gap is used to identify the crankshaft position at each start-up. The crankshaft position sensor produces an ON/OFF DC voltage of varying frequency, with 58 output pulses per crankshaft revolution. The crankshaft position sensor sends a digital signal to the ECM as each tooth on the reluctor wheel rotates past the crankshaft position sensor. The ECM uses each crankshaft position signal pulse to determine the crankshaft speed position. This information is then used to determine the optimum ignition and injection points of the engine. The ECM also uses crankshaft position sensor output information to determine the camshaft's relative position to the crankshaft, control camshaft phasing, and detect cylinder misfire.
The ECM also has a dedicated replicated crankshaft position sensor signal output circuit that may be used as an input signal to other modules for monitoring engine RPM.
The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when no signal is sent from the Crankshaft Position Sensor to the ECM for greater than 1s.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0335 Buick Code

1. What does the OBDII code P0335 mean on a Buick?

P0335 indicates a malfunction in the crankshaft position sensor circuit, which is responsible for monitoring the crankshaft's position and engine speed.

2. What are the common symptoms of code P0335 in a Buick?

Symptoms may include engine stalling, difficulty starting, rough idling, reduced power, and the check engine light illuminating.

3. What causes the P0335 code to appear on a Buick?

Common causes include a faulty crankshaft position sensor, damaged wiring or connectors, a failed PCM (Powertrain Control Module), or issues with the reluctor ring.

4. Can a bad crankshaft position sensor cause the engine not to start?

Yes, a faulty crankshaft position sensor can prevent the engine from starting, as it disrupts the ignition and fuel injection timing.

5. How do you diagnose the P0335 code on a Buick?

Start by inspecting the crankshaft position sensor, its wiring, and connectors for damage. Use a multimeter to test the sensor and check for proper voltage and continuity.

6. Is it safe to drive with the P0335 code on a Buick?

Driving with this code is not recommended, as it can cause stalling or sudden loss of power, which could be dangerous.

7. How much does it cost to fix the P0335 code on a Buick?

The repair cost depends on the issue, but replacing the crankshaft position sensor typically costs between $100 and $300, including parts and labor.

8. Can a bad battery cause the P0335 code on a Buick?

A weak or failing battery can sometimes cause electrical issues, but it’s unlikely to directly trigger the P0335 code. Check the sensor and wiring first.

9. Will clearing the P0335 code fix the problem?

Clearing the code will turn off the check engine light temporarily, but the issue will return if the underlying problem is not resolved.

10. What tools are needed to fix the P0335 code on a Buick?

You may need an OBDII scanner, a multimeter, basic hand tools, and potentially a replacement crankshaft position sensor.
