P02EB 2015 GMC Sierra Code - Intake Air Flow Valve Control Motor Current Performance

Quick Answer

The intake airflow valve of diesel engines reduces the intake air flow rate in part-load operation so that a higher exhaust gas recirculation rate can be achieved. Common causes include Faulty Throttle Body Assembly, Throttle Body Assembly harness is open or shorted, Throttle Body Assembly circuit poor electrical connection. Severity is High - diagnose this code as soon as possible. Driving is not recommended if the warning light is flashing, the engine runs poorly, or safety-related symptoms are present.

Code P02EB 2015 GMC Sierra Description

The intake airflow valve of diesel engines reduces the intake air flow rate in part-load operation so that a higher exhaust gas recirculation rate can be achieved.
The Intake airflow valve assembly contains a contactless inductive throttle position sensing element that is managed by a customized integrated circuit. The valve position sensor is mounted within the valve body assembly and is not serviceable. The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies the valve body with a 5 V reference circuit, a low reference circuit, an H-bridge motor directional control circuit, and an asynchronous signal/serial data circuit. The asynchronous signal means communication is only going from the intake airflow valve to the ECM. The Intake Air Flow Valve cannot receive data from the ECM over the signal/serial data circuit. The valve position sensor provides a signal voltage that changes relative to the valve blade angle. The valve position sensor information is transmitted between the Intake Air Flow Valve and the ECM on the signal/serial data circuit.
The valve may also be used to shut down the engine by closing the intake airflow valve and disabling the fuel injectors if the control module detects the engine speed is beyond the desired control limits. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set if the ECM detects a high current through the throttle motor.

Frequently Asked Questions about P02EB 2015 GMC Sierra Code

1. What does the OBDII code P02EB mean on a 2015 GMC Sierra?

P02EB indicates an issue with the Intake Air Flow Valve Control Motor's current performance, meaning the motor isn't operating within the expected range.

2. What are the common symptoms of code P02EB in a 2015 GMC Sierra?

Symptoms may include a check engine light, reduced engine performance, poor acceleration, and potential fuel efficiency issues.

3. What causes the P02EB code to appear in a GMC Sierra?

Common causes include a faulty intake air flow valve control motor, wiring or connection issues, a malfunctioning control module, or excessive carbon buildup restricting valve movement.

4. Can I drive my 2015 GMC Sierra with the P02EB code?

While it may be possible to drive, it is not recommended as it could lead to reduced performance or potential damage to the engine if not addressed promptly.

5. How do I diagnose the P02EB code on my GMC Sierra?

Diagnosis typically involves using an OBDII scanner, inspecting the intake air flow valve and its motor, checking for wiring or connector damage, and testing the motor’s functionality.

6. How can I fix the P02EB code on my 2015 GMC Sierra?

Repairs may involve cleaning or replacing the intake air flow valve, repairing damaged wiring, ensuring proper connections, or replacing the control motor if it’s defective.

7. Is a software update required to fix the P02EB code on a GMC Sierra?

In some cases, a reprogramming or update to the engine control module (ECM) software may be necessary to resolve the issue.

8. How much does it cost to repair the P02EB code on a 2015 GMC Sierra?

Repair costs can vary but typically range from $100 to $500, depending on whether cleaning, part replacement, or diagnostic labor is needed.

9. Can a dirty air filter cause the P02EB code?

A dirty air filter is unlikely to cause the P02EB code directly, but it can contribute to airflow restrictions that may indirectly affect valve operation.

10. How can I prevent the P02EB code from recurring on my GMC Sierra?

Regular maintenance, such as cleaning the intake system, inspecting wiring and connections, and addressing issues promptly, can help prevent the code from recurring.
