Code P02E9 2016 Chevrolet Silverado Description

The Throttle Body Assembly contains a contact-less inductive throttle position sensing element that is managed by a customized integrated circuit. The throttle position sensor is mounted within the throttle body assembly and is not serviceable. The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies the throttle body with a 5 V reference circuit, a low reference circuit. The asynchronous signal means communication is only going from the throttle body to the ECM. The throttle body cannot receive data from the ECM over the signal/serial data circuit. The throttle position sensor provides a signal voltage that changes relative to the throttle blade angle. The throttle position sensor information is transmitted between the throttle body and the ECM on the signal/serial data circuit. The ECM decodes the serial data signal and is used as voltages for throttle position sensor 1 and 2. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the ECM detects that the throttle valve position sensor SENT signal voltage is greater than a calibrated threshold for 0.5 s.

Frequently Asked Questions about P02E9 2016 Chevrolet Silverado Code

1. What does the OBDII code P02E9 mean on a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado?

P02E9 indicates a high voltage issue in the Diesel Intake Air Flow Position Sensor Circuit, which monitors and controls air intake for optimal engine performance.

2. What are the common symptoms of code P02E9?

Symptoms may include reduced engine power, poor fuel efficiency, rough idling, difficulty accelerating, and the check engine light being illuminated.

3. What causes the P02E9 code on a 2016 Silverado?

Possible causes include a faulty intake air flow position sensor, damaged wiring or connectors in the sensor circuit, or issues with the engine control module (ECM).

4. Can a dirty air filter cause the P02E9 code?

While a dirty air filter may restrict airflow, it is unlikely to directly trigger the P02E9 code. However, it can contribute to related airflow issues over time.

5. How do you diagnose the P02E9 code?

Diagnosing involves using an OBDII scanner to confirm the code, inspecting the intake air flow position sensor and its wiring, and testing the sensor's voltage and resistance.

6. Is it safe to drive with the P02E9 code?

Driving with this code is not recommended, as it can lead to reduced engine performance and potential damage to other components if not addressed promptly.

7. How do you fix the P02E9 code on a 2016 Silverado?

Repairs may involve replacing a faulty intake air flow position sensor, repairing damaged wiring or connectors, or reprogramming/updating the ECM if necessary.

8. Can a software update resolve the P02E9 code?

In some cases, a software update for the ECM may resolve the issue if it is caused by a programming error or incorrect sensor calibration.

9. How much does it cost to fix the P02E9 code?

Repair costs can vary, but replacing the intake air flow position sensor typically ranges between $150 and $300, including parts and labor.

10. Can I reset the P02E9 code without repairs?

You can clear the code using an OBDII scanner, but if the underlying issue is not resolved, the code will likely return. Proper diagnosis and repair are necessary.
