Code P02E9 2015 GMC Sierra Description

The Throttle Body Assembly contains a contact-less inductive throttle position sensing element that is managed by a customized integrated circuit. The throttle position sensor is mounted within the throttle body assembly and is not serviceable. The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies the throttle body with a 5 V reference circuit, a low reference circuit. The asynchronous signal means communication is only going from the throttle body to the ECM. The throttle body cannot receive data from the ECM over the signal/serial data circuit. The throttle position sensor provides a signal voltage that changes relative to the throttle blade angle. The throttle position sensor information is transmitted between the throttle body and the ECM on the signal/serial data circuit. The ECM decodes the serial data signal and is used as voltages for throttle position sensor 1 and 2. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the ECM detects that the throttle valve position sensor SENT signal voltage is greater than a calibrated threshold for 0.5 s.

Frequently Asked Questions about P02E9 2015 GMC Sierra Code

1. What does the OBDII code P02E9 mean on a 2015 GMC Sierra?

P02E9 indicates an issue with the Diesel Intake Air Flow Position Sensor Circuit reporting a high voltage condition, which may impact engine performance.

2. What are common symptoms of code P02E9 on a 2015 GMC Sierra?

Symptoms can include reduced engine power, poor acceleration, rough idling, increased emissions, or the Check Engine Light being illuminated.

3. What causes the P02E9 code to appear on a GMC Sierra?

Common causes include a faulty diesel intake air flow position sensor, damaged wiring or connectors, or a malfunctioning ECM (Engine Control Module).

4. How can I diagnose the P02E9 code on my GMC Sierra?

Start by visually inspecting the wiring and connectors for damage. Use a multimeter to check sensor voltage and continuity, and verify the sensor's output with a scan tool.

5. Can I still drive my 2015 GMC Sierra with a P02E9 code?

Driving with this code may lead to reduced performance and increased emissions. It is best to address the issue promptly to avoid potential damage to the engine.

6. How do I fix the P02E9 code on my GMC Sierra?

Repair steps may include replacing the diesel intake air flow position sensor, repairing or replacing damaged wiring, or reprogramming/updating the ECM if necessary.

7. How much does it cost to fix a P02E9 code on a GMC Sierra?

Repair costs can vary but typically range between $150 and $400, depending on whether the sensor, wiring, or ECM requires attention.

8. Can a dirty mass airflow (MAF) sensor cause the P02E9 code?

While the MAF sensor is separate, issues with air flow readings, including dirt or obstructions, could indirectly trigger the code. Cleaning the MAF sensor may help in some cases.

9. How can I prevent the P02E9 code from recurring?

Regular maintenance, including inspecting the intake system, keeping sensors clean, and checking wiring connections, can help prevent this issue.

10. Is the P02E9 code specific to the 2015 GMC Sierra?
