Code P02E8 2018 Chevrolet Silverado Description

The Throttle Body Assembly contains a contact-less inductive throttle position sensing element that is managed by a customized integrated circuit. The throttle position sensor is mounted within the throttle body assembly and is not serviceable. The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies the throttle body with a 5 V reference circuit, a low reference circuit. The asynchronous signal means communication is only going from the throttle body to the ECM. The throttle body cannot receive data from the ECM over the signal/serial data circuit. The throttle position sensor provides a signal voltage that changes relative to throttle blade angle. The throttle position sensor information is transmitted between the throttle body and the ECM on the signal/serial data circuit. The ECM decodes the serial data signal and is used as voltages for throttle position sensor 1 and 2. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the ECM detects that the throttle valve position sensor SENT signal voltage is less than a calibrated threshold for 0.5 s.

Frequently Asked Questions about P02E8 2018 Chevrolet Silverado Code

1. What does OBDII code P02E8 mean on a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado?

Code P02E8 indicates a problem with the Diesel Intake Air Flow Position Sensor Circuit, specifically that the circuit is registering a low voltage signal.

2. What are the symptoms of code P02E8 in a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado?

Common symptoms include reduced engine performance, poor fuel efficiency, rough idling, and possible activation of the check engine light.

3. What causes code P02E8 in a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado?

Possible causes include a faulty diesel intake air flow position sensor, damaged wiring or connectors, a malfunctioning PCM (Powertrain Control Module), or excessive carbon buildup in the intake system.

4. Can I drive my 2018 Chevrolet Silverado with code P02E8?

While it may be possible to drive, it’s not recommended as it can lead to worsening engine performance and potential damage to related components.

5. How do I fix code P02E8 on a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado?

Start by inspecting the wiring and connectors for damage. If they’re intact, test and replace the diesel intake air flow position sensor if necessary. If the issue persists, the PCM or intake system may need further diagnosis.

6. How do I test the diesel intake air flow position sensor on a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado?

Use a multimeter to check the sensor's voltage output. Compare the readings to the manufacturer’s specifications to determine if the sensor is malfunctioning.

7. Can a dirty intake system cause code P02E8?

Yes, excessive carbon or soot buildup in the intake system can restrict air flow and cause the sensor to read incorrectly, triggering the code.

8. How much does it cost to fix code P02E8 on a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado?

The cost depends on the root cause. Replacing the sensor may cost $100-$300, while addressing wiring issues or cleaning the intake system may vary.

9. Does code P02E8 require reprogramming the PCM?

Reprogramming is typically not required unless the PCM itself is faulty. However, it’s important to rule out other causes before considering PCM replacement.

10. Can a weak battery trigger code P02E8 in a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado?

A weak or failing battery can cause voltage-related issues, which might indirectly contribute to the P02E8 code. Check the battery’s health if other causes are ruled out.
