Code P023B Dodge Description

The Charge Air Cooler (CAC) system is used to reduce the temperature of the air entering the combustion chambers to improve engine performance. The Supercharger causes the temperature increase of the air entering the engine. The CAC system consists of an electric CAC Coolant Pump, Charge Air Coolers, Coolant Reservoir, Charge Air Cooler Radiator, Charge Air Cooler Coolant Temperature Sensor, and plumbing. The CAC cooling system operates independently of the vehicle’s primary cooling system.
The CAC Pump is a smart device that contains a LIN Bus communication module and a coolant pump. To maintain a desired charge air temperature, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) sends a pump speed command over the LIN bus to the internal CAC pump module. The internal CAC Pump module controls the pump speed/coolant flow rate using Pulse-width modulation (PWM). The CAC Pump assembly monitors for internal system circuits and performance failures. If a fault occurs the CAC Pump module sends the fault information to the PCM through the dedicated LIN Bus. The PCM processes the information received and then sets the correlating fault.
The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set if the PCM receives a LIN bus message from the Charge Air Cooler Coolant Pump that the pump control circuit voltage is less than 8.5-Volts.

Frequently Asked Questions about P023B Dodge Code

1. What does the OBDII code P023B mean on a Dodge vehicle?

P023B indicates a low voltage issue in the charge air cooler coolant pump control circuit, often affecting the performance of the pump responsible for cooling the intake air.

2. What are the common symptoms of P023B on a Dodge?

Symptoms may include reduced engine performance, overheating of the intake air system, illuminated check engine light, and potentially higher exhaust emissions.

3. What causes the P023B code to appear?

Common causes include a faulty charge air cooler coolant pump, damaged wiring or connectors in the pump circuit, a blown fuse, or a malfunctioning control module.

4. Can I drive with the P023B code on my Dodge?

While the vehicle may still be drivable, ignoring this code can lead to engine performance issues or further damage due to inadequate cooling of the intake air.

5. How do I diagnose the P023B code on my Dodge?

Start by checking the wiring and connectors for damage or corrosion, test the charge air cooler coolant pump for proper operation, and inspect the fuse and relay associated with the circuit.

6. How do I fix the P023B code on a Dodge vehicle?

Repairs may involve replacing the charge air cooler coolant pump, repairing or replacing damaged wiring, replacing a blown fuse, or reprogramming the control module if necessary.

7. What tools are needed to troubleshoot the P023B code?

You’ll need an OBDII scanner, a multimeter for testing voltage, and potentially wiring diagrams specific to your Dodge model.

8. How much does it cost to repair the P023B code on a Dodge?

Repair costs vary but typically range from $100 to $500, depending on whether the issue is with the pump, wiring, or control module.

9. Can a dirty charge air cooler cause the P023B code?

No, a dirty charge air cooler typically won’t cause this code, as P023B specifically relates to the electrical circuit of the coolant pump.

10. Does clearing the P023B code fix the problem?

Clearing the code will reset the check engine light temporarily, but the underlying issue must be resolved to prevent the code from returning.
