Code P0223 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Description

The Throttle Body Assembly contains a contact-less inductive throttle position sensing element that is managed by a customized integrated circuit. The throttle position sensor is mounted within the throttle body assembly and is not serviceable. The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies the throttle body with a 5 V reference circuit, a low reference circuit. The asynchronous signal means communication is only going from the throttle body to the ECM. The throttle body cannot receive data from the ECM over the signal/serial data circuit. The throttle position sensor provides a signal voltage that changes relative to throttle blade angle. The throttle position sensor information is transmitted between the throttle body and the ECM on the signal/serial data circuit. The ECM decodes the serial data signal and is used as voltages for throttle position sensor 1 and 2. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the ECM detects the throttle position sensor 2 signal voltage is greater than 4.6 V for greater than 1 s.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0223 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Code

1. What does the OBDII code P0223 mean on a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

P0223 indicates a high voltage issue in the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) 2 circuit, suggesting a problem with the sensor or its wiring.

2. What are the common symptoms of P0223 in a 2014 Silverado?

Symptoms may include reduced engine power, poor acceleration, hesitation, unstable idle, or the "Check Engine" light turning on.

3. What causes the P0223 code to appear?

Common causes include a faulty TPS, damaged wiring or connectors, issues with the throttle body, or a problem with the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

4. Can I drive my 2014 Chevrolet Silverado with a P0223 code?

Driving with this code is not recommended, as it can lead to reduced engine performance and potential safety concerns due to throttle response issues.

5. How do I diagnose the P0223 code on my Silverado?

Use an OBDII scanner to confirm the code, visually inspect the throttle body wiring and connectors, and test the TPS voltage with a multimeter to identify irregularities.

6. How do I fix the P0223 code on a 2014 Silverado?

Repairs may include replacing the TPS, repairing or replacing damaged wiring or connectors, cleaning the throttle body, or reprogramming/updating the PCM if necessary.

7. What is the function of Throttle Position Sensor 2?

TPS 2 monitors the position of the throttle valve and sends voltage signals to the PCM to ensure proper engine performance and response.

8. How much does it cost to repair a P0223 code on a 2014 Silverado?

Repair costs can range from $100 to $400, depending on whether the issue is with the TPS, wiring, or throttle body.

9. Can a dirty throttle body cause the P0223 code?

Yes, a dirty or clogged throttle body can interfere with TPS readings, potentially triggering the P0223 code.

10. Does the P0223 code require reprogramming the PCM?

Reprogramming the PCM is rarely necessary, but it may be required if the issue persists after replacing components or repairing wiring.
