Code P0222 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Description

The Throttle Body Assembly contains a contact-less inductive throttle position sensing element that is managed by a customized integrated circuit. The throttle position sensor is mounted within the throttle body assembly and is not serviceable. The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies the throttle body with a 5 V reference circuit, a low reference circuit. The asynchronous signal means communication is only going from the throttle body to the ECM. The throttle body cannot receive data from the ECM over the signal/serial data circuit. The throttle position sensor provides a signal voltage that changes relative to throttle blade angle. The throttle position sensor information is transmitted between the throttle body and the ECM on the signal/serial data circuit. The ECM decodes the serial data signal and is used as voltages for throttle position sensor 1 and 2. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the ECM detects the throttle position sensor 2 signal voltage is less than 0.25 V for greater than 1 s.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0222 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Code

What does OBDII code P0222 mean for a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

P0222 indicates that the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) 2 circuit is experiencing low voltage, which means the sensor is not sending the proper signal to the engine control module (ECM).

What are the common symptoms of code P0222 in a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

Symptoms include poor engine performance, reduced throttle response, difficulty accelerating, stalling, and the Check Engine Light being illuminated.

What causes code P0222 in a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

Common causes include a faulty throttle position sensor, damaged wiring or connectors in the TPS circuit, or issues with the ECM.

Can I drive my 2014 Chevrolet Silverado with code P0222?

Driving with code P0222 is not recommended, as it can lead to reduced engine performance and potential safety risks due to limited throttle control.

How is code P0222 diagnosed in a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

Technicians typically use a scan tool to confirm the code, inspect the TPS and its wiring for damage, test the voltage output, and check for proper operation of related components.

How do I fix code P0222 on a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

Repairs may involve replacing the throttle position sensor, repairing damaged wiring or connectors, or reprogramming or replacing the ECM if necessary.

Does code P0222 require replacing the throttle position sensor?

Not always. While a faulty TPS is a common cause, the issue could also be related to wiring or ECM problems, which should be inspected first.

What tools are needed to fix code P0222 on a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

Tools may include a multimeter for testing voltage, a scan tool to confirm the code, and basic hand tools for removing and replacing components.

How much does it cost to repair code P0222 on a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

Repair costs vary, but replacing the throttle position sensor typically ranges from $150 to $300, including parts and labor.

Can a dirty throttle body cause code P0222?

A dirty throttle body is unlikely to cause P0222 directly, but it can contribute to poor throttle sensor readings and overall performance issues. Cleaning it may help if other repairs are needed.
