Code P01D2 Description

The Engine Control Module (ECM) has the ability to learn injector timing performance. When the engine is at operating temperature, throttle closed and in deceleration fuel cut-off mode, the ECM will pulse each injector individually and measure the changes in rotational speed of the crankshaft using the input from the crankshaft position sensor. The ECM will run this diagnostic at one fuel rail pressure operating point for each injector. The ECM stores the injector timing value. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the Fuel Injection Timing is out of range.

Frequently Asked Questions about P01D2 Code

1. What does the OBDII code P01D2 mean?

P01D2 indicates that the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected that the fuel injection timing for cylinder 4 is more advanced than specified.

2. What are the common symptoms of the P01D2 code?

Symptoms may include rough idling, reduced engine performance, poor fuel efficiency, increased exhaust emissions, and possible engine misfires.

3. What causes the P01D2 code to appear?

Possible causes include a faulty fuel injector, issues with the injector wiring or connectors, a malfunctioning ECM, or incorrect timing due to mechanical problems like a worn timing chain or gear.

4. Can I drive my car with the P01D2 code?

It is not recommended to drive for an extended period with this code, as it can cause engine performance issues and potential long-term damage.

5. How is the P01D2 code diagnosed?

A mechanic will use an OBDII scanner to confirm the code, inspect the injector for cylinder 4, check the wiring and connectors, and potentially perform timing checks to identify the root cause.

6. How do I fix the P01D2 code?

Repairs might include replacing the cylinder 4 fuel injector, repairing or replacing damaged wiring, updating or reprogramming the ECM, or addressing mechanical timing issues.

7. What tools are needed to repair the P01D2 code?

Tools may include an OBDII scanner, a multimeter for electrical testing, and potentially specialized tools for injector or timing adjustments.

8. Can a dirty fuel injector cause the P01D2 code?

Yes, a clogged or dirty injector can disrupt proper fuel delivery and timing, leading to this code.

9. How much does it cost to repair the P01D2 code?

Repair costs can vary depending on the issue, ranging from $100–$300 for injector cleaning or replacement to $500 or more for timing-related repairs.

10. Will clearing the P01D2 code solve the problem?

Clearing the code will reset the ECM temporarily, but unless the underlying issue is resolved, the code is likely to return.
