Code P01CF 2017 GMC Sierra Description

The Engine Control Module (ECM) has the ability to learn injector timing performance. When the engine is at operating temperature, throttle closed and in deceleration fuel cut-off mode, the ECM will pulse each injector individually and measure the changes in rotational speed of the crankshaft using the input from the crankshaft position sensor. The ECM will run this diagnostic at one fuel rail pressure operating point for each injector. The ECM stores the injector timing value. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the Fuel Injection Timing is out of range.

Frequently Asked Questions about P01CF 2017 GMC Sierra Code

What does the OBDII code P01CF mean on a 2017 GMC Sierra?

The P01CF code indicates that the injection timing for cylinder 3 is retarded, meaning the fuel injection is occurring later than it should.

What are common symptoms of the P01CF code in a 2017 GMC Sierra?

Symptoms may include rough idling, reduced engine performance, poor fuel economy, misfiring, or an illuminated check engine light.

What causes the P01CF code on a GMC Sierra?

Common causes include a faulty fuel injector, timing control issues, carbon buildup, wiring problems, or a malfunctioning engine control module (ECM).

Can I drive my 2017 GMC Sierra with the P01CF code?

Driving with this code is not recommended, as it can lead to engine damage, reduced performance, and higher emissions if not addressed promptly.

How do mechanics diagnose the P01CF code?

Mechanics typically use a scan tool to confirm the code, inspect cylinder 3’s injector and wiring, check timing components, and test the ECM for proper operation.

What repairs can fix the P01CF code in a GMC Sierra?

Repairs may include cleaning or replacing the fuel injector for cylinder 3, fixing damaged wiring, addressing timing chain issues, or reprogramming/updating the ECM.

Can dirty fuel cause the P01CF code?

Yes, contaminated or poor-quality fuel can clog the injector, causing timing issues and triggering the P01CF code.

How much does it cost to fix the P01CF code on a 2017 GMC Sierra?

Repair costs vary but can range from $150 for cleaning an injector to over $1,000 if timing components or the ECM need replacement.

How can I prevent the P01CF code from occurring?

Regular maintenance, using high-quality fuel, and periodically cleaning the fuel injectors can help prevent this code from appearing.

Does the P01CF code require reprogramming the ECM?

Not always, but if the ECM is identified as the issue or if a software update is available, reprogramming may be necessary to resolve the problem.
