Code P018C 2017 GMC Sierra Description

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) provides a 5-Volt supply to the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor (FRPS). The PCM also provides a ground on the sensor return circuit. The Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor provides a signal to the PCM on the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Signal circuit. This sensor signal voltage changes based on the pressure in the fuel rail. The PCM will detect a low signal voltage at low rail pressures. The PCM will detect a high signal voltage during high rail pressure conditions. The PCM will light the MIL lamp immediately after the diagnostic runs and fails. During this time the customer may experience a power and or speed derate. The PCM will turn off the MIL light after the diagnostic runs and passes in four consecutive drive cycles.

Frequently Asked Questions about P018C 2017 GMC Sierra Code

What does the OBDII code P018C mean for a 2017 GMC Sierra?

P018C indicates that the fuel pressure sensor 'B' circuit is reporting a voltage lower than expected, which may affect the fuel delivery system's operation.

What are the common symptoms of code P018C in a 2017 GMC Sierra?

Symptoms may include poor engine performance, difficulty starting, reduced fuel efficiency, and in some cases, the Check Engine Light being illuminated.

What causes the P018C code in a 2017 GMC Sierra?

Common causes include a faulty fuel pressure sensor, wiring issues such as damaged or corroded connections, or a problem with the engine control module (ECM).

Can I drive my 2017 GMC Sierra with a P018C code?

While the truck may still be drivable, ignoring this code can lead to poor performance and potential damage to the fuel system. It is best to address the issue promptly.

How do I diagnose a P018C code on a 2017 GMC Sierra?

Start by inspecting the fuel pressure sensor and its wiring for damage or corrosion. Use a multimeter to test the sensor's voltage and resistance. If needed, consult a diagnostic scan tool to check live data.

What repairs fix the P018C code on a 2017 GMC Sierra?

Repairs may include replacing the fuel pressure sensor, repairing or replacing damaged wiring, cleaning corroded connectors, or reprogramming the ECM if necessary.

How much does it cost to fix the P018C code on a 2017 GMC Sierra?

The cost varies depending on the repair. Replacing a fuel pressure sensor typically costs $150–$300, including parts and labor, while wiring repairs may be less expensive.

Can a dirty fuel filter cause the P018C code on a 2017 GMC Sierra?

A dirty fuel filter can restrict fuel flow, which might contribute to low fuel pressure. However, it is not a direct cause of the P018C code, which is related specifically to the sensor circuit.

Will clearing the code fix the issue on a 2017 GMC Sierra?

Clearing the code may temporarily turn off the Check Engine Light, but the underlying issue must be diagnosed and fixed to prevent the code from returning.

How can I prevent the P018C code from appearing again on my 2017 GMC Sierra?

Regular maintenance, including checking fuel system components for wear or damage and ensuring clean electrical connections, can help prevent this code from reoccurring.
