Code P018C 2016 Chevrolet Silverado Description

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) provides a 5-Volt supply to the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor (FRPS). The PCM also provides a ground on the sensor return circuit. The Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor provides a signal to the PCM on the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Signal circuit. This sensor signal voltage changes based on the pressure in the fuel rail. The PCM will detect a low signal voltage at low rail pressures. The PCM will detect a high signal voltage during high rail pressure conditions. The PCM will light the MIL lamp immediately after the diagnostic runs and fails. During this time the customer may experience a power and or speed derate. The PCM will turn off the MIL light after the diagnostic runs and passes in four consecutive drive cycles.

Frequently Asked Questions about P018C 2016 Chevrolet Silverado Code

1. What does the OBDII code P018C mean on a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado?

P018C indicates a "Fuel Pressure Sensor 'B' Circuit Low," meaning the powertrain control module (PCM) has detected a low voltage signal from the fuel pressure sensor circuit.

2. What are the symptoms of code P018C in a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado?

Common symptoms include poor engine performance, rough idling, difficulty starting, reduced fuel efficiency, and possibly an illuminated check engine light.

3. What causes the P018C code on a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado?

Causes may include a faulty fuel pressure sensor, damaged or corroded wiring or connectors, a short or open circuit, or a malfunctioning powertrain control module (PCM).

4. Can a dirty fuel filter trigger the P018C code?

While a dirty fuel filter can affect fuel pressure, it is unlikely to directly trigger the P018C code, as this code specifically relates to the electrical circuit of the fuel pressure sensor.

5. How do I diagnose the P018C code on my 2016 Chevrolet Silverado?

Start by checking the fuel pressure sensor and its wiring for damage or corrosion. Use a multimeter to test the circuit and confirm if the sensor is functioning properly. Scan for additional trouble codes to narrow down the issue.

6. Can I drive my 2016 Chevrolet Silverado with a P018C code?

Driving with this code is not recommended, as it can lead to decreased engine performance and potential damage to the fuel system or engine over time.

7. How do I fix the P018C code on a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado?

Repairs may involve replacing the faulty fuel pressure sensor, repairing or replacing damaged wiring or connectors, or in rare cases, reprogramming or replacing the PCM.

8. How much does it cost to fix the P018C code on a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado?

Repair costs depend on the exact issue but typically range from $150 to $400, with parts and labor included. A fuel pressure sensor replacement generally costs around $100-$250.

9. Is the fuel pressure sensor 'B' the same as the primary fuel pressure sensor?

No, the 'B' designation refers to a secondary or additional fuel pressure sensor, typically located in the low-pressure side of the fuel system.

10. Can a weak battery cause the P018C code on a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado?

While uncommon, low system voltage from a weak battery could potentially cause sensor malfunctions or erratic signals, leading to a P018C code.
