There are many things that could cause that codes. The most common cause are intake leaks (disconnected or damage hoses to the intake) and faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. Also inspect the air filter and replace the filter if necessary.

I got the code on my 2011 camry which has about 67k mile on it. I cleaned the MAF sensor but that didn't help and the code came back again after a ride or so. Today, I was inspecting under the hood and I noticed that one of the intake resonators was completely detached from the intake system. So, I am %100 sure that was the culprit for the problem. Now, I am a bit concerned that it made some damage to the engine because it creates a direct airway (without much filtering) to the engine.

I doubt you damage the engine. It happens all the time, hoses brakes and air goes to the engine directly. I have never seen any engine with problems because of that.
