The service engine soon lights come on - on my 2004 Cadillac DeVille. After diagnostic testing it shows that the P0122 thottle pedal position sensor is the problem. Here are the symptoms: When I have to stop at a red light or a stop sign, the car completely shuts off. I noticed that if I keep my foot on the brake and the gas peddal at the same time, the car does not shut down. My conclusion is that If I take my foot off the gas, the car won't idle, however, on the contrary, when I got home and parked the car for a day or so, the car was idling perfectrly and this problem of breaking down without notice did not re-occur? Could this TPS be the only reason the car just went dead?
Please let me know.

There is a service bulletin for this problem and the factory recommends the following:
- Disconnect /reconnect the negative battery cable and then see if the car will start.
- If the engine does not start, remove the PCM connectors and reinstall them to the PCM. Make sure the connector is fully seated before the locking slide is engaged. It is possible to have the PCM connector slide in the lock position with out having the connector completely seated into the PCM.
