Code P0105 MINI Description

The Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor measures the pressure inside the intake manifold. Pressure in the intake manifold is affected by engine speed, throttle opening, air temperature, Barometric Pressure (BARO) and if equipped, turbocharger output. A diaphragm within the MAP sensor is displaced by the pressure changes that occur from the varying load and operating conditions of the engine. The sensor translates this action into electrical resistance.
The MAP sensor wiring includes 3 circuits. The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies a regulated 5 volts to the sensor on a 5 V reference circuit. The ECM supplies ground on a low reference circuit. The MAP sensor provides a signal voltage to the ECM, relative to the pressure changes, on the MAP sensor signal circuit. The ECM converts the signal voltage input to a pressure value.
Under normal operation the greatest pressure that can exist in the intake manifold is at ignition ON, engine OFF, which is equal to the BARO. The lowest manifold pressure occurs when the vehicle is idling or decelerating. The ECM monitors the MAP sensor signal for pressure outside of the normal range.
The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the ECM receives an excessively low or high voltage from the MAP Sensor.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0105 MINI Code

1. What are the common symptoms of OBDII code P0105 related to the Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Sensor Circuit?

The common symptoms of P0105 include poor engine performance, rough idling, stalling, decreased fuel efficiency, and potential issues with acceleration.

2. What are the possible causes of OBDII code P0105 in a MINI?

The possible causes of P0105 in a MINI could be a faulty manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor, damaged wiring or connectors in the sensor circuit, intake manifold leaks, or issues with the engine's computer.

3. How can I diagnose the source of OBDII code P0105 in my MINI?

To diagnose P0105, you can start by checking the MAP sensor's wiring and connectors for any damage or corrosion. You can also test the sensor's output using a multimeter and inspect the intake manifold for any leaks.

4. Can a dirty air filter cause OBDII code P0105 to trigger in a MINI?

Yes, a dirty air filter can restrict airflow to the engine, affecting the readings of the MAP sensor and potentially triggering code P0105. It's recommended to replace the air filter as part of the diagnostic process.

5. How can I repair OBDII code P0105 related to the Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Sensor Circuit in my MINI?

Repairing P0105 may involve replacing the faulty MAP sensor, repairing or replacing damaged wiring or connectors, fixing any intake manifold leaks, or resetting the engine computer after addressing the issue.

6. Is it safe to continue driving my MINI with OBDII code P0105 present?

It's not recommended to continue driving with code P0105 as it can lead to further engine damage and potentially unsafe driving conditions. It's best to address the issue promptly to prevent any complications.

7. Can a DIY enthusiast fix OBDII code P0105 on a MINI, or should it be handled by a professional mechanic?

Depending on your automotive knowledge and skills, a DIY enthusiast can potentially fix P0105 by following repair guides and using the right tools. However, if you're unsure or uncomfortable with the repair process, it's best to consult a professional mechanic.

8. Will resetting the OBDII system clear code P0105 from my MINI's engine computer?

Resetting the OBDII system may temporarily clear the code, but if the underlying issue causing P0105 is not addressed, the code is likely to reappear. It's important to diagnose and fix the root cause of the problem.

9. How long does it typically take to repair OBDII code P0105 in a MINI?

The repair time for P0105 can vary depending on the specific cause of the issue. Simple fixes like replacing a sensor or repairing wiring may take a few hours, while more complex repairs involving the intake manifold could take longer.

10. Can extreme weather conditions affect the triggering of OBDII code P0105 in a MINI?

Extreme weather conditions, such as very high or low temperatures, can potentially impact the readings of the MAP sensor and lead to the triggering of code P0105. It's important to consider environmental factors during diagnosis and repair.
