Code P00BF 2019 Ford F150 Description

The Mass Airflow (MAF) Sensor uses a hot wire sensing element to measure the amount of air entering the engine. The air passing over the hot wire causes it to cool. This hot wire is maintained at 200°C (392°F) above the ambient temperature as measured by a constant cold wire. The current required to maintain the temperature of the hot wire is proportional to the mass airflow. The MAF Sensor then outputs a signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) proportional to the intake air mass. The PCM calculates the required fuel injector pulse width in order to provide the desired air to fuel ratio. The MAF sensor is located near the air cleaner assembly. Most MAF sensors have an integrated Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor. This Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the Mass Airflow 'A' Sensor (MAF11) value is within the expected range for the current operating conditions, and the Mass Airflow 'B' Sensor (MAF21) value is greater than the MAF11 value.

Frequently Asked Questions about P00BF 2019 Ford F150 Code

1. What does the OBDII code P00BF mean on a 2019 Ford F150?

The code P00BF indicates that the Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor for circuit 'B' has detected airflow readings that are too high, which fall outside the expected range.

2. What are the common symptoms of code P00BF in a Ford F150?

Symptoms may include reduced engine performance, rough idling, hesitation during acceleration, poor fuel economy, and sometimes an illuminated Check Engine Light.

3. What causes the P00BF code on a 2019 Ford F150?

Common causes include a faulty MAF sensor, air intake leaks, clogged or dirty air filters, or issues with the wiring or connectors related to the MAF sensor.

4. Can I drive my 2019 Ford F150 with the P00BF code?

While the truck may still be operable, driving with this code can cause poor performance and may lead to further engine or emissions system damage if not addressed promptly.

5. How do I diagnose the P00BF code on my Ford F150?

Diagnosis involves inspecting the MAF sensor, checking for air intake leaks, testing the sensor wiring and connectors, and using a scan tool to monitor live data for abnormal airflow readings.

6. How do I fix the P00BF code on a 2019 Ford F150?

Repairs may include cleaning or replacing the MAF sensor, replacing a clogged air filter, fixing intake leaks, or repairing damaged wiring or connectors.

7. Can a dirty air filter cause the P00BF code?

Yes, a clogged or dirty air filter can restrict airflow, leading to inaccurate MAF sensor readings and triggering the P00BF code.

8. How much does it cost to repair a P00BF code on a 2019 Ford F150?

Repair costs can range from $50 to $300 depending on whether you clean or replace the MAF sensor, replace the air filter, or fix wiring issues.

9. Is it necessary to reprogram the ECU after fixing the P00BF code?

Typically, reprogramming is not required. Clearing the code with a scan tool after repairs should suffice if the issue has been resolved.

10. Can a vacuum leak cause the P00BF code in a Ford F150?

Yes, a vacuum leak can affect the airflow readings detected by the MAF sensor, potentially triggering the P00BF code.
