Code P00BE 2019 Ford F150 Description

The Mass Airflow (MAF) Sensor uses a hot wire sensing element to measure the amount of air entering the engine. The air passing over the hot wire causes it to cool. This hot wire is maintained at 200°C (392°F) above the ambient temperature as measured by a constant cold wire. The current required to maintain the temperature of the hot wire is proportional to the mass airflow. The MAF Sensor then outputs a signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) proportional to the intake air mass. The PCM calculates the required fuel injector pulse width in order to provide the desired air to fuel ratio. The MAF sensor is located near the air cleaner assembly. Most MAF sensors have an integrated Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor. This Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the Mass Airflow 'A' Sensor (MAF11) value is within the expected range for the current operating conditions, and the Mass Airflow 'B' Sensor (MAF21) value is less than the MAF11 value.

Frequently Asked Questions about P00BE 2019 Ford F150 Code

1. What does the OBDII code P00BE mean on a 2019 Ford F150?

The P00BE code indicates a "Mass Airflow 'B' Circuit Range/Performance Air Flow Too Low," meaning the mass airflow sensor is detecting insufficient airflow into the engine.

2. What are the symptoms of code P00BE in a 2019 Ford F150?

Common symptoms include poor engine performance, reduced fuel efficiency, rough idling, hesitation during acceleration, and possibly an illuminated check engine light.

3. What causes the P00BE code to appear?

Possible causes include a dirty or faulty mass airflow (MAF) sensor, a clogged air filter, intake air leaks, or restrictions in the intake system.

4. Can a dirty air filter trigger the P00BE code?

Yes, a clogged or dirty air filter can restrict airflow, triggering the P00BE code.

5. How do I fix the P00BE code on my Ford F150?

Start by cleaning or replacing the air filter, inspecting and cleaning the MAF sensor, and checking for any air intake leaks. Replace the MAF sensor if it's faulty.

6. Can driving with the P00BE code damage my engine?

Driving with this code for an extended period can lead to poor engine performance and increased wear on components due to improper air-fuel mixture.

7. How do I clean the mass airflow (MAF) sensor for the P00BE code?

Use a specialized MAF sensor cleaner, spray it on the sensor element, and let it air dry completely before reinstalling. Avoid touching the sensor with your hands or tools.

8. Is a vacuum leak related to the P00BE code?

Yes, a vacuum leak can cause unmetered air to enter the engine, resulting in incorrect airflow readings and triggering the P00BE code.

9. How much does it cost to fix the P00BE code on a 2019 Ford F150?

Repair costs depend on the cause. Cleaning the MAF sensor or replacing an air filter is inexpensive, while replacing the MAF sensor or fixing intake leaks may cost $100–$500 or more.

10. Can a software update fix the P00BE code?

In some cases, an engine control module (ECM) software update may resolve false readings, but this is less common and should only be done after ruling out hardware issues.
