P00BD 2016 Ford F150 Code - Mass Airflow 'A' Circuit Range/Performance Air Flow Too High

Quick Answer

The Mass Airflow (MAF) Sensor uses a hot wire sensing element to measure the amount of air entering the engine. Common causes include Faulty Mass Airflow (MAF) 'A' Sensor, Mass Airflow 'A' Sensor harness is open or shorted, Mass Airflow 'A' Sensor circuit poor electrical connection. Severity is High - diagnose this code as soon as possible. Driving is not recommended if the warning light is flashing, the engine runs poorly, or safety-related symptoms are present.

Code P00BD 2016 Ford F150 Description

The Mass Airflow (MAF) Sensor uses a hot wire sensing element to measure the amount of air entering the engine. The air passing over the hot wire causes it to cool. This hot wire is maintained at 200°C (392°F) above the ambient temperature as measured by a constant cold wire. The current required to maintain the temperature of the hot wire is proportional to the mass airflow. The MAF Sensor then outputs a signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) proportional to the intake air mass. The PCM calculates the required fuel injector pulse width in order to provide the desired air to fuel ratio. The MAF sensor is located near the air cleaner assembly. Most MAF sensors have an integrated Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor. This Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the Mass Airflow 'B' Sensor (MAF21) value is within the expected range for the current operating conditions, and the Mass Airflow 'A' Sensor (MAF11) value is greater than the MAF21 value.

Frequently Asked Questions about P00BD 2016 Ford F150 Code

1. What does the OBDII code P00BD mean on a 2016 Ford F-150?

The P00BD code indicates that the Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor is detecting an air intake flow rate that is higher than expected, which can affect engine performance.

2. What are the symptoms of the P00BD code on a 2016 Ford F-150?

Symptoms may include rough idling, poor acceleration, decreased fuel efficiency, stalling, and the Check Engine Light being illuminated.

3. What causes the P00BD code on a 2016 Ford F-150?

Common causes include a dirty or faulty Mass Airflow sensor, a leaking or damaged air intake system, a clogged air filter, or an aftermarket air intake system that disrupts airflow readings.

4. Can a dirty air filter trigger the P00BD code?

Yes, a clogged or dirty air filter can restrict airflow, causing the MAF sensor to report incorrect readings and trigger the P00BD code.

5. How do I fix the P00BD code on my 2016 Ford F-150?

Start by cleaning or replacing the MAF sensor, inspecting and replacing the air filter if necessary, and checking the air intake system for leaks or damage.

6. Can a faulty MAF sensor cause the P00BD code?

Yes, a malfunctioning MAF sensor can cause inaccurate airflow readings, leading to the P00BD code.

7. Is it safe to drive with the P00BD code on a 2016 Ford F-150?

It is possible to drive with this code, but it may cause poor engine performance and reduced fuel efficiency. Ignoring it could lead to further engine issues over time.

8. Can an aftermarket air intake system cause the P00BD code?

Yes, some aftermarket air intake systems can disrupt the airflow readings of the MAF sensor and trigger the P00BD code.

9. How do I clean the MAF sensor to fix the P00BD code?

Use a MAF sensor cleaner spray and follow the instructions carefully. Do not touch the sensor’s wires or use anything other than the recommended cleaner.

10. Do I need to reset the Check Engine Light after fixing the P00BD code?

Yes, after addressing the issue, you’ll need to clear the code using an OBDII scanner. If the problem is resolved, the light should not come back on.
