Code P00AC 2016 Ford F150 Description

The Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor is a thermistor device in which resistance changes with temperature. The resistance of a thermistor decreases as the temperature increases, and the resistance increases as the temperature decreases. The varying resistance affects the voltage drop across the sensor pins and provides electrical signals to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) corresponding to temperature.
Thermistor-type sensors are considered passive sensors. A passive sensor is connected to a voltage divider network so that varying the resistance of the passive sensor causes a variation in total current flow. The voltage that is dropped across a fixed resistor in a series with the sensor resistor determines the voltage signal at the PCM. This voltage signal is equal to the reference voltage minus the voltage drop across the fixed resistor.
The IAT sensor provides air temperature information to the PCM. The PCM uses the air temperature information as a correction factor in the calculation of fuel, spark, and airflow.
The IAT sensor provides a quicker temperature change response time than the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) or Cylinder Head Temperature (CHT) sensor.
Currently, there are 2 types of IAT sensors used, a stand-alone and an integrated type. Both types function the same, however, the integrated type is incorporated into the Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor, the Manifold Absolute Pressure and Temperature (MAPT) Sensor, or the Turbocharger Intake Pressure and Temperature (TCIPT) Sensor instead of being a stand-alone sensor.
The Intake Air Temperature 2 (IAT2) Sensor is typically located near the intake manifold and is used to measure the intake manifold temperature. The PCM uses this information to determine the air charge and provide input for various engine control functions. The IAT2 sensor may be integrated with the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor.
This Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is set when the Intake Air Temperature Bank 2, Sensor 1 (IAT21) sensor signal is less than the self-test minimum.

Frequently Asked Questions about P00AC 2016 Ford F150 Code

1. What does the OBDII code P00AC mean on a 2016 Ford F150?

P00AC indicates an issue with the Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit Low on Bank 2, meaning the sensor is reading a lower voltage than expected by the engine control module (ECM).

2. What are common symptoms of a P00AC code on a Ford F150?

Symptoms may include poor engine performance, reduced fuel efficiency, rough idling, difficulty starting, or an illuminated check engine light.

3. What causes the P00AC code on a 2016 Ford F150?

Potential causes include a faulty intake air temperature sensor, damaged or corroded wiring, a loose connector, or issues with the ECM.

4. Can I drive my 2016 Ford F150 with a P00AC code?

While the vehicle may still be drivable, it’s not recommended as it can lead to reduced performance, higher emissions, and potential damage to other engine components.

5. How do I fix the P00AC code on my 2016 Ford F150?

Repairs may involve replacing the intake air temperature sensor, repairing or replacing damaged wiring, cleaning connector terminals, or, in rare cases, reprogramming or replacing the ECM.

6. Where is the Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 located on a 2016 Ford F150?

The Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 is typically integrated into the mass airflow sensor or located in the air intake ducting before the throttle body.

7. How much does it cost to repair a P00AC code on a Ford F150?

The cost can vary but typically ranges from $100 to $300 for parts and labor, depending on whether the sensor or wiring needs replacement.

8. Can a dirty air filter trigger the P00AC code in a Ford F150?

A dirty air filter is unlikely to directly cause the P00AC code but can contribute to airflow issues that may affect sensor readings.

9. How can I prevent the P00AC code from occurring on my Ford F150?

Regular maintenance, including inspecting and cleaning the intake air temperature sensor and ensuring the wiring and connectors are in good condition, can help prevent this issue.

10. Do I need a professional mechanic to fix the P00AC code on my 2016 Ford F150?

If you’re familiar with automotive diagnostics and repairs, you can attempt to fix it yourself. However, for more complex issues or ECM-related problems, consulting a professional is recommended.
