Code P0092 2016 GMC Sierra Description

High-pressure fuel is regulated by the high-pressure fuel pump actuator, which is a part of the high-pressure fuel pump. The high-pressure fuel pump actuator is a solenoid valve. The Engine Control Module (ECM) provides battery voltage on the actuator high control circuit and ground on the actuator low control circuit. Both circuits are controlled through output drivers within the ECM. When deactivated, both drivers are disabled. When activated, the high control circuit driver energizes the high-pressure fuel pump actuator, and the low control circuit driver Pulse-Width Modulates (PWM) the low control circuit to the ground. The ECM monitors the voltage on the circuits to detect a failure. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will set if the ECM detects a short to voltage in the high-pressure fuel pump actuator low control circuit.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0092 2016 GMC Sierra Code

What does the OBDII code P0092 mean on a 2016 GMC Sierra?

P0092 indicates that the fuel pressure regulator control circuit has a high voltage condition, suggesting an issue with the fuel pressure regulator or its associated wiring.

What are the common symptoms of code P0092 in a 2016 GMC Sierra?

Symptoms may include difficulty starting the engine, poor fuel economy, rough idling, reduced engine performance, or the Check Engine Light being illuminated.

What causes code P0092 to trigger in a 2016 GMC Sierra?

Common causes include a faulty fuel pressure regulator, damaged or shorted wiring, a defective powertrain control module (PCM), or corroded electrical connectors in the circuit.

Can I drive my 2016 GMC Sierra with code P0092 active?

It’s not recommended to drive with this code active, as it can lead to poor engine performance, potential stalling, or damage to other components.

How do I diagnose the P0092 code on a 2016 GMC Sierra?

Start by checking the wiring and connectors for damage or corrosion, testing the fuel pressure regulator for proper operation, and using a multimeter to measure voltage in the circuit.

What tools are needed to fix code P0092 on a 2016 GMC Sierra?

You’ll typically need an OBDII scanner, a multimeter, basic hand tools, and possibly a fuel pressure tester, depending on the diagnosis.

How is code P0092 fixed on a 2016 GMC Sierra?

Repairs may include replacing the fuel pressure regulator, repairing or replacing damaged wiring, cleaning corroded connectors, or reprogramming or replacing the PCM if necessary.

How much does it cost to fix code P0092 on a 2016 GMC Sierra?

The cost can vary but typically ranges from $150 to $400, depending on whether the fuel pressure regulator, wiring, or PCM needs repair or replacement.

Can a dirty fuel filter cause code P0092 on a 2016 GMC Sierra?

While a dirty fuel filter can cause fuel delivery issues, it’s unlikely to directly cause the P0092 code, which is specific to the regulator control circuit's voltage.

How can I prevent the P0092 code from occurring in my 2016 GMC Sierra?

To prevent this code, perform routine maintenance, regularly inspect the fuel system wiring and connectors, and use high-quality fuel to avoid contaminants damaging the regulator.
