Code P007B GMC Description

The Charge Air Cooler (CAC) Temperature Sensor 1 is a variable resistor. The sensor is located at the turbocharger outlet. Its signal is used by the Engine Control Module (ECM) to measure the temperature of the intake air entering the CAC. The ECM supplies 5 V to the signal circuit and a ground for the low reference circuit. The ECM continuously monitors the sensor signal for an excessively high or low voltage, or for a start-up signal that is not in correlation with the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor start-up signal and Fuel Temperature Sensor. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the ECM detects a difference of greater than 20°C (68°F) between CAC temperature sensor 1 and the combined average temperature of IAT 3 and the fuel temperature sensor.

Frequently Asked Questions about P007B GMC Code

1. What does the OBDII code P007B mean on a GMC?

The P007B code indicates an issue with the performance of the Charge Air Cooler Temperature Sensor 1, which monitors the temperature of the air entering the engine.

2. What are the common symptoms of a P007B code on a GMC?

Symptoms may include reduced engine performance, poor fuel efficiency, an illuminated check engine light, and possible difficulty accelerating.

3. What causes the P007B code on a GMC?

Common causes include a faulty charge air cooler temperature sensor, wiring issues such as short circuits or corrosion, a defective powertrain control module (PCM), or a malfunctioning charge air cooler.

4. Can I drive my GMC with a P007B code?

While the vehicle may still be drivable, ignoring the code could lead to reduced efficiency and potential damage to the engine or turbo system. It's best to address the issue promptly.

5. How do I diagnose the P007B code on a GMC?

Start by using an OBDII scanner to confirm the code. Then, inspect the charge air cooler temperature sensor, wiring, and connectors for damage or corrosion. Test the sensor with a multimeter if necessary.

6. How do I fix the P007B code on a GMC?

Repairs may include replacing the faulty charge air cooler temperature sensor, repairing damaged wiring or connectors, cleaning corroded connections, or reprogramming or replacing the PCM if needed.

7. How much does it cost to fix the P007B code on a GMC?

The repair cost depends on the exact issue but typically ranges from $50 to $300, including parts and labor, with the sensor replacement being one of the less expensive fixes.

8. What tools are needed to troubleshoot a P007B code on a GMC?

You'll need an OBDII scanner, a multimeter, and basic tools for inspecting and repairing wiring or replacing the sensor.

9. Can a dirty charge air cooler cause the P007B code on a GMC?

Yes, a clogged or dirty charge air cooler can affect airflow and temperature readings, potentially triggering the P007B code.

10. Is the P007B code on a GMC related to turbocharger problems?

It can be, as the charge air cooler is part of the turbocharging system. If the cooler or turbo system is malfunctioning, it could lead to incorrect temperature readings and trigger the code.
