Code P0035 GMC Description

The dual scroll turbocharger incorporates a wastegate that is controlled by a pressure differential, which is determined by the Engine Control Module (ECM) using a PWM solenoid, to regulate the pressure ratio of the compressor. A compressor bypass valve also controlled by the ECM by utilizing a remotely mounted solenoid is integrated into the bypass valve to prevent compressor surging and damage from vibrations by opening during abrupt closed throttle conditions. When the valve is open during closed throttle deceleration conditions, the bypass valve allows the air to recirculate in the turbocharger and maintain compressor speed. Within a calibrated range during the closed throttle event, or upon a wide-open throttle command the valve will then close to optimize turbo response. The bypass valve solenoid has the following circuits: Ignition voltage and Turbocharger bypass valve solenoid control.
As engine load and RPM increase the turbocharger bypass solenoid parameter should remain commanded ON by the ECM. As soon as the throttle closes the turbocharger bypass solenoid parameter should be commanded OFF by the ECM, to allow the turbocharger bypass valve to open and allow the turbocharger air to recirculate, thereby preventing compressor surging.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0035 GMC Code

What does the OBDII code P0035 mean on a GMC?

P0035 indicates a high voltage issue in the Turbocharger Bypass Solenoid Valve Control Circuit, which is responsible for regulating boost pressure in the turbocharger system.

What are common symptoms of the P0035 code on a GMC vehicle?

Symptoms include reduced engine performance, poor acceleration, turbo lag, excessive exhaust smoke, and possibly an illuminated check engine light.

What causes the P0035 code on a GMC?

Common causes include a faulty turbo bypass solenoid valve, damaged wiring or connectors in the circuit, or a malfunctioning engine control module (ECM).

Can a P0035 code cause engine damage if ignored?

Yes, prolonged driving with this code can lead to engine stress, overheating, or damage to the turbocharger due to improper pressure regulation.

How do I diagnose the P0035 code on a GMC?

Start by inspecting the turbo bypass solenoid valve, wiring, and connectors for damage. Use a multimeter to check for proper voltage and resistance in the circuit.

Can I drive my GMC with a P0035 code?

It is not recommended to drive with this code, as it can lead to poor engine performance and potential damage to the turbocharger or engine components.

How do I fix the P0035 code on my GMC?

Repairs may involve replacing the turbo bypass solenoid valve, repairing damaged wiring or connectors, or reprogramming the ECM if necessary.

How much does it cost to fix a P0035 code on a GMC?

Repair costs can range from $100 to $400, depending on whether the solenoid valve needs replacement or if wiring and ECM programming are required.

Can a dirty air filter cause the P0035 code?

While unlikely, a severely clogged air filter may contribute to turbocharger performance issues, but it’s not a direct cause of the P0035 code.

Does the P0035 code affect fuel economy?

Yes, this code can reduce fuel efficiency due to improper turbocharger operation and increased engine strain.
