Code P0024 Nissan Description

This mechanism hydraulically controls cam phases continuously with the fixed operating angle of the exhaust valve.
The Engine Control Module (ECM) receives signals such as crankshaft position, camshaft position, engine speed, and engine coolant temperature. Then, the ECM sends ON/OFF pulse duty signals to the exhaust valve timing control solenoid valve depending on driving status. This makes it possible to control the shut/open timing of the intake valve to increase engine torque in low/mid speed range and output in high-speed range.
The intake valve timing control solenoid valve changes the oil amount and direction of flow through intake valve timing control unit or stops oil flow. The longer pulse width advances valve angle. The shorter pulse width retards valve angle. When ON and OFF pulse widths become equal, the solenoid valve stops oil pressure flow to fix the intake valve angle at the control position.

2. What are the common symptoms of a P0024 code in a Nissan?

Symptoms may include rough idling, reduced engine performance, poor fuel economy, engine stalling, or the Check Engine Light turning on.

3. What causes the P0024 code to appear in a Nissan vehicle?

Common causes include a faulty camshaft position sensor, a malfunctioning oil control valve (OCV), low or dirty engine oil, or issues with the timing chain or belt.

4. What is Bank 2 in relation to the P0024 code on a Nissan?

Bank 2 refers to the side of the engine opposite Bank 1, which typically contains cylinder 2 in a V-engine configuration.

5. Can low engine oil levels trigger the P0024 code on a Nissan?

Yes, low or dirty engine oil can restrict the proper functioning of the variable valve timing system, leading to the P0024 code.

6. How do I diagnose the P0024 code on my Nissan?

Start by checking the engine oil level and condition, inspecting the camshaft position sensor and oil control valve, and verifying the timing chain or belt alignment.

7. Can I drive my Nissan with a P0024 code?

It’s not recommended to drive with a P0024 code as it can lead to engine damage or unsafe driving conditions if the timing issue worsens.

8. How can I fix the P0024 code on a Nissan?

Repairs may include replacing the camshaft position sensor, cleaning or replacing the oil control valve, performing an oil change, or repairing the timing chain or belt.

9. How much does it cost to fix a P0024 code on a Nissan?

The repair cost varies depending on the issue, ranging from $100 for an oil change to $1,000 or more for timing chain replacement.

10. Can a faulty camshaft position sensor cause the P0024 code in a Nissan?
