Code P0021 2005 Infiniti G35 Description

This mechanism hydraulically controls cam phases continuously with the fixed operating angle of the intake valve. The Engine Control Module (ECM) receives signals such as crankshaft position, camshaft position, engine speed, and engine coolant temperature. Then, the ECM sends ON/OFF pulse duty signals to the intake valve timing control solenoid valve depending on driving status. This makes it possible to control the shut/open timing of the intake valve to increase engine torque in low/mid speed range and output in the high-speed range.
The intake valve timing control solenoid valve changes the oil amount and direction of flow through the intake valve timing control unit or stops oil flow. The longer pulse width advances the valve angle. The shorter pulse width retards the valve angle. When ON and OFF pulse widths become equal, the solenoid valve stops oil pressure flow to fix the intake valve angle at the control position.

Discuss the causes and fixes for P0021 2005 Infiniti G35 OBDII Code

  • I got the p0021 code on my 2005 G35X. It turned out to be the cam position sensor. It was $70 and not hard to replace. The sensor is located on the back of the engine on the drivers side for the P0021 code, for P0011 it is the passengers side. It is easier to take off the air intake than it is to reach around behind the engine from the passenger side, although I have done it both ways.
