Code P0011 Mercedes-Benz Description

This fault code is stored in the Engine Control Module (ECM) when a malfunction occurs in the camshaft position sensor monitoring system. This fault code can be set due to a fault with the camshaft position sensor, phonic wheel, associated wiring or engine control module. A mechanical defect which affects static valve timing can also cause this issue. A variable valve timing defect must also be investigated, including oil supply to the oil control solenoid. The oil control solenoid should also be tested using an oscilloscope, the solenoid may be operated during an actuator test. A fault in the sprocket dephaser or variator will also cause this fault code to be set.
A relationship test with an oscilloscope can be used to check the valve timing. For vehicles with a phonic wheel which is attached to a keyless pulley it must be noted that the static valve timing maybe correct but the position of the phonic wheel is incorrect.
